Slime Gift Idea + Free Printables

We seem to have a pretty constant rotation of birthday parties these days.  Although we love the parties and celebrations, I am not a big fan of running around trying to come up with gifts.  Almost every kid we know these days is super into Slime and many even ask for slime supplies for gifts.  So I have started making these little slime gift packs and so far they have been a big hit!  In fact, at my 8 year old’s last slumber party another little girl said “Hi.  I plan to invite you to my birthday so you can get me one of those buckets too.”  Ha ha ha!  Nice to meet you too!

Simple, you can customize in the colors you like, buy all the supplies at once to make several gifts and you are totally set.  Ready for the next party.  This is also a very cute and practical Easter basket idea instead of mountains of candy.

To make things even simpler, I have included a printable recipe sheet with recipes for (4) popular slime variations and a little gift tag that can be used for any celebration or even as a party favor for slime themed birthday parties.

Here is a simple Easter variation just adding a little candy and eggs.

The recipe card is just one page you can print for the following variations on slime:

  • Slime
  • Butter Slime
  • Crunchy Slime
  • Foaming Slime

Include them all, along with the supplies, or just pick out the ones you like best.  This is what we have been including in our buckets- note we (finally!) got our Daiso clay for the butter slime after I photographed this bucket so that is not pictured but has been included for the butter slime.

List of supplies:

  • Bucket (mine is from Hobby Lobby- similar here)
  • Crunchy Foam Beads (mine are from here)
  • Glue (the starter kits here are usually cheaper than individual bottles)
  • Mr Bubbles Foaming Soap (found at Walmart or buy online here)
  • Food Coloring (or glitter would be fun)
  • Travel bottles – filled with baking soda and contact solution (I buy this contact solution)
  • Daiso Clay– if you have a Daiso store nearby this is significantly cheaper but I find inventory is hard to get and colors are not always desirable- we got brown last time. You can also use Model Magic instead for butter slime.
  • Plastic containers

I believe the entire cost for this bucket including the Daiso clay was about $21.  We typically spend about $25 on birthday gifts so I grab a fun candy and tuck that inside the bucket as well.

Simple 2 Ingredient Unicorn Ice Cream Playdoh

Edible ice cream playdoh on myfrugaladventures.com. Unicorn playdoh swirl.

This is a fun and super simple idea for summer crafts with kids or a rainy day craft to bring a little sunshine in.

Now this could not be simpler to make and super inexpensive and has such fun colors that little ones are going to really love.

The texture on this is soft and playdoh-y and very fun to squish.  You can really have fun with this and use ice cream cones, sprinkles, ice cream scoops and so on.

This is obviously completely edible and gluten free but I wouldn’t really encourage eating it- or much of it as it is basically pure sugar.  I remember when my girls were a little younger though, there were always other littles that just could not play with playdoh or slimes or flubber without tasting everything.

This recipe is for a pretty swirl effect like you see above- I call it unicorn ice cream playdoh because of the great blues and pinks and swirled purple colors.  You can definitely cut the recipe in half and just make one color.

I used the boldest, brightest frosting color I could find but I think a soft lemon would be amazing or a soft pink/red color with mini chocolate chips (watermelon) chocolate or just plain vanilla frosting and add in your own colors.  I think the next time we make this will be strawberry, vanilla and chocolate in a Neapolitan swirl.

Simple 2 Ingredient Ice Cream Playdoh

Ingredients
  • 5½ cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup pink frosting
  • 1 cup blue frosting
Instructions
  1. Add 2 ¾ cups of powdered sugar to a stand up mixer using the paddle attachment. Add 1 cup of
  2. blue frosting. Mix on low, scraping sides as needed, until dough balls up into a playdough
  3. consistency. If the mixture is too powdery and is not forming a play dough ball, add a
  4. teaspoon of frosting and continue to mix.
  5. Remove the ball of blue play dough and set it aside.
  6. Repeat this process with pink frosting.
  7. Add the blue play dough ball back into the mixer with the pink play dough ball. Set the mixer to
  8. low to blend the two colors together. Only mix long enough to mostly incorporate the pink into
  9. the blue.
  10. Allow the kiddos to enjoy playing with this play dough with ice cream cones, an ice cream scoop,
  11. sundae bowls, maybe even sprinkles!

You can store this in a Ziploc in the fridge and let come to room temp to play again and again.  If you have any issues with dry play doh- a tiny bit of coconut oil (melted) does the trick.

Birthday Funfetti Slime

Funfetti or birthday cake slime recipe on myfrugaladventures.com. Image of foam beads in a rainbow slime.

We still haven’t gotten tired of making variations on slime around these parts.  My 3rd grader in particular just loves making slime and we are always looking for creative twists on the standard recipe.

I came up with the idea of a birthday cake slime- plain white slime with tons of sprinkles- like Funfetti.  I knew my little girl would absolutely love this as it would be sprinkley and rainbow colored.  It doesn’t get much better than that.

To make this slime is very simple.  I just started with a basic white glue, slime recipe and added these fun rainbow foam beads.

You could literally use sprinkles but I have a feeling real sprinkles would bleed and create a mess.  So these little foam beads were pretty inexpensive and added a fun texture to the slime and served as our sprinkles.

I purchased purchased these foam beads and there are a ton of them to make numerous batches of slime.

Here is the simple recipe I used with just contact solution, glue and baking soda.  There are lots of other recipes though with basic household items that I will link below.

  • 4oz Elmer’s Glue
  • 1 tablespoon contact solution or saline solution with boric acid listed on ingredients
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • foam beads

Or for a larger batch:

  • 2 cups white glue
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 4 pumps foaming hand soap (optional)
  • about 4 tablespoons of contact solution.  Add in 1/2 tablespoon increments and stir well in between until it reaches the consistency you like.
  • 1/4 cup (or more) of foam beads

Add everything to a bowl and mix very well.  At first the mixture will be sticky but if you continue kneading or mixing you should get past the sticky phase and the slime will come together.  You may need to add slightly more glue if it feels too tough or slightly more contact solution if it feels too sticky.

You can substitute liquid starch for the contact solution or laundry soap (like Tide).

And I have a video below in case you prefer a visual.  Please remember slime is really science and you may need to add a dash more of this or a dash more of that to get it just right. The key is to keep kneading away at the slime because if you add too much contact solution it will get tough and rubbery.

And that is it!  Funfetti or Birthday Cake Slime.

Such a fun variation on the standard recipe!~  Here is a quick video in case you prefer to watch step by step visuals:

I have found the best value on glue is from Amazon- please note it goes in and out of stock:

Free printable slime valentine on myfrugaladventures.com. Fun and cute printable valentine with slime.

Here is our second Valentine for this year and I suspect many of you might have children that would love this one.

If you have kids that are super into the slime craze or if you are looking for non-candy Valentine’s, this one might be perfect!

My 8 year old loves slime so I knew right away that I wanted to make her Valentine’s slimey.  We came up with this simple “Happy Valen-slime’s Day” printable tag with a little red monster.  These can be printed and attached to a baggie with homemade slime or these little condiment cups are available at Walmart for about $2.50/pack.

If you aren’t in the mood to make your own slime, you can purchase slime too.  I bought 12 little slime containers for $5.99 on sale at Oriental Trading.

I can pretty much guarantee these Valentine’s will be a hit with the kids this year!

Free Printable Valentine: Just Poppin’ By

Free printable valentine on MyFrugalAdventures.com. Valentine with popcorn that says Just Poppin By to Say You Are Awesome. Perfect gender neutral free printable valentine.

I have two fun Valentine ideas for you for this year.  This year I was trying to find fun ideas for my 8 year old and my 10 year old.  Our main issue with so many Valentines is the wording- my girls absolutely refuse to hand out any Valentine that expresses love or affection for the boys in their class.  No chance.

There will be no “You have my heart!”  “I only have eyes for you” or even “Will you be my Valentine.”  Nope.  Not a chance.

Free printable valentine on MyFrugalAdventures.com. Valentine with popcorn that says Just Poppin By to Say You Are Awesome. Perfect gender neutral free printable valentine.

So this Valentine is simple and easy and gender neutral.  You can add a real treat like I did with this kettle corn popcorn or you can add the healthier versions of plain popcorn.  Kids love popcorn and this option gives them something to eat besides candy.

I picked up large bags of Angie’s Cheese Popcorn and Kettle Corn from the grocery store and just poured about a cup into party bags but Trader Joes, Costco or most grocery stores also have large bags or the individual bags of popcorn to make things even easier.

We added a few pink sprinkles from Michael’s – the little hearts are very cute.

Just print the little tags and tie them to your treat or tape them on the front of an individual bag.

And all done!  Just poppin’ by to say you are awesome.  And you totally are!  Thirty of these coming your way 5th grade class.

You can click here to download your free printable Popcorn Valentine PDF.

PLEASE NOTE:  This is for personal use only and not for resale. Thank you!

And to keep things super simple, you can order popcorn right here from Amazon

Fizzy Confetti Bath Salts

12/18/2017 By Charlene Leave a Comment

This post may contain affiliate links, please see my disclosure policy.

This is a very simple and very inexpensive little DIY project that makes a fun gift.

My 10 year old and I found something similar to this at a fancy store for $14.00 each.  Yikes! We actually bought one as a little Secret Santa gift for her dance studio and she wanted to grab a few more for gifts for her little buddies.  We decided to try our hand at making our own version and they turned out really well.  I think her friends are going to get a kick out of these.  If you want to make some of your own little fizzy bath salts, here is the simple DIY.

You need:

  • Push Pop Containers (from the baking section of a craft store or or purchase online by clicking here)
  • Epsom Salts
  • Baking Soda
  • Citric Acid (optional)- buy in craft stores or or purchase online by clicking here
  • fragrances and coloring of your choice

The push pop containers just make this so much more fun and unique and they are reusable if you want to refill again and again.

The citric acid is completely optional- it adds a slight fizziness to the bath salts.  If you do decide to use them, it is probably best for an adult to handle this ingredient.  The citric acid is quite fine and if you breathe it in or get it in an eye, it is unpleasant.

  • fragrance of your choice (between 10-30 drops)
  • food coloring

  1. Mix all ingredients in a large bowl until food coloring is evenly disbursed.
  2. Gently pour into push pop containers.
  3. Close tightly with lid.
  4. Pop in your bath and enjoy!

So easy as that!  My daughter made two versions- one is a calming lavender blend and the second was a lime pop.  Other fragrance ideas would be eucalyptus, vanilla, peppermint, rosemary, florals like jasmine or rose, citrus such as orange, lime or lemon and so many more…  We use Young Living essential oils but feel free to use whatever products you might have on hand for fragrance.  I did use a larger quantity of drops to make sure the salts really smell wonderful.

You can make up little gift tags, tie with ribbon and you are done.  A fun and unique gift for someone.

Sugar Plum Fairy Slime Recipe

12/06/2017 By Charlene Leave a Comment

Here is a fun and simple craft for Christmas that is so fun and festive.

This little Sugar Plum Slime is perfect for those of you that might be fans of the Nutcracker.  Even if you have never experienced the Nutcracker ballet, there is something so magical about the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Land of Sweets that anyone can appreciate.

You can make this in literally 2 minutes with your child for something fun to play with or package this up as a little gift.  I think popping this into a stocking would be fun or maybe gift your child just the ingredients to make it themselves.

My 8 year old still loves making slime and she really loved this version.  A few weeks ago I made a bunch of little slime containers and brought them to a soccer tournament for her team.  Ok that was such a hit I can’t even tell you.  The kids loved playing with the slime and it entertained them for probably 2 hours between games.  In fact, I put a few pieces of candy in the bag with the slime and they totally ignored the candy.  If that isn’t a testament I don’t know what is. 🙂
