There are usually a few fun reading programs for children each summer that offer rewards and incentives for meeting reading goals.
Hopefully some of these programs motivate your little ones this summer!
Here are a few programs you might want to check out:
American Girl. Free events in stores, quizes and other activities.
Book Adventure – Search for books, read them, take a little quiz and earn prizes.
Barnes & Noble Imagination Destination – Keep track of your books on a reading log and earn a free book. The books available are listed and you simply bring the completed log into the store and they give you your book!
*If you have little ones, my Barnes and Noble also offers free storytime twice a week. They read books and get cookies and there is usually coloring and sometimes special appearances from characters in the book. You can enter your zip code here to see a list of events at your store.
Local Public Library –Local libraries often have programs available. Each of the libraries in my area offer various rewards and activities.
Chuck E. Cheese – Read for 2 weeks and earn 10 free tokens. A food purchase is required and you might call ahead just to confirm participation.
Scholastic Summer Challenge –Children can log in their reading minutes and earn virtual rewards. You can also enter sweepstakes to win Klutz books. We love the Klutz books!
Pottery Barn Kids– Free storytime for little ones once a week. You get a little passport and once you attend 5 storytimes, you get a free gift. The times vary by store.
Pizza Hut Book It! Program. This is for schools or homeschoolers to enroll and get tons of resources plus earn vouchers for free pizzas.

I guess I never thought to look at my local public library to see if there were any programs. My little sister is such a book worm, so my mom thought to put her in some reading camps. She would have so much fun if she went to one. We’re just looking everywhere because she wants to go to one soon.
