We actually don’t buy Jello very often although my girls absolutely love it. I couldn’t resist trying these Red, White and Blue cups for Fourth of July though.
They are just so pretty and in Sacramento it is HOT in July so I am usually somewhat limited with what types of desserts I can serve at BBQs and such.
So these are really easy to assemble and the colors are so vibrant and pretty. If you have little ones, you might consider making these as well. And if you are planning to take them to a BBQ or other outdoor festivities, these are super easy to grab and go. You can assemble them in any clear glass you might have or a mason jar would work perfectly.
So here is the super easy directions to make these cups. If you like you can top them with fresh whipped cream and maybe even some red, white and blue sprinkles.
- 1 Blue Jell-O Gelatin (3 oz package Berry Blue is what I used)
- 1 Red Jell-O Gelatin (3 oz package Cherry is what I used)
- 1 envelope Unflavored gelatin (located in the baking aisle)
- 1⅓ cups boiling Water
- 1 cup Milk
- ¼ cup Sugar
- Maraschino Cherries drained or fresh cherries
- Place blue gelatin in a bowl and add ⅔ cup boiling water.
- Stir well until dissolved and allow to cool.
- Fill each cup ⅓ full of blue and place in refrigerator.
- Add ⅓ cup of milk to another bowl and sprinkle unflavored gelatin over top.
- Heat remaining ⅔ cup of milk to a boil.
- Remove from heat and stir in sugar to dissolve.
- Add heated milk to gelatin/milk mixture and stir until blended.
- Allow to cool.
- Gently fill all cups the next ⅓ of the way with white mixture and return to refrigerator.
- Place red gelatin in a bowl and add ⅔ cup boiling water.
- Stir well until dissolved and allow to cool.
- Place a cherry on top of each glass and add about ¼" of red gelatin to each.
- Place in refrigerator for 5 minutes.
- Pull from refigerator and try to adjust to get stems to point upward.
- Fill each cup the rest of the way with red and place in refrigerator.
And that is it! Fun patriotic dessert that is fast and easy to make.
