I wasn’t going to post this because it was such a quick little project but I thought I would mention it for those of you with class parties this week. Isn’t it a relief to just have something simple for a change that only takes minutes but looks like you went to a lot of trouble?
This would work for pretty much any holiday or for birthday parties and it is such a cute way to package up snacks! I might do this for Girl Scouts or for soccer treats this year too.
I need to bring a snack for one of my children’s class party this week and I was trying to think of something quick and healthy. Ok not exactly healthy but better then candy or chips or treats ;).
So I was thinking the kids would probably like popcorn and we like to just make the plain kernels over the stove so no added preservatives and junk.
I bought a pack of cute little brown bags at Michael’s for $1.99 and then I just used a heart punch to punch out a piece of glitter scrapbook paper. I used a little glue dot to adhere the hearts onto the bags and done! Actually I cut the hearts out and then my 6 year old was in charge of assembly.
So about $2.50 in total for 12 little snacks. The nice thing is that the bags will fold over to take to go in case they don’t finish in class.
It took just a few minutes to make the bags and then I can make a huge batch of fresh popcorn in about 5 minutes on the stovetop and done!
These look adorable in person and I just saw something very similar at Pottery Barn Kids for like $6.00.
I have the heart punch because I used it for the Heart Valentine’s Day garland so if you don’t have a heart punch, a stamped heart would work perfectly or you can make this into a little craft project and just print a heart shape from the internet. Cut the heart out and use that as a template to draw on your bag. Once you have the heart shape drawn on the bag, take markers or paint and paint it in. I think a tiny sprinkle of glitter on the wet paint would look fantastic!
You might even be able to just cut these out freehand or with a Silhouette machine or they sell the little foam stickers in the craft stores or Target Dollar Spot… all of those are great options!
This works for any holiday or party– use Four Leaf Clovers for St Patricks Day, Butterflies for a little tea party, a Snowflake shape for once Frozen finally comes out on DVD… an airplane for a Planes party etc… etc…
Oh and I just stood these bags up and filled them with popcorn. Another option would be to line up the bags and put your popcorn inside a dish towel in a little basket and serve it up with a large spoon. That would be cute for a slumber party with different toppings for the popcorn!
(Confession- it is a party and I think I will sprinkle just a tiny bit of heart cupcake sprinkles on the top- my kids love that).
If you are having a party- check out this easy tutorial to make tissue paper poms. These are so festive and you won’t believe how cheap they are to make!
