Here is a recipe that I love for some really fun little cupcakes for Christmas. These are so easy to make and really festive. My girls loved these and I may or may not have had several myself.
These just require a simple chocolate or yellow cake base, some buttercream frosting, a few sprinkles and that is about it. I’ll show you a quick little trick to make these snowy Christmas trees which the kids will love.
To get started you want to mix up your cupcake batter. I used this Chocolate Cupcake recipe but you can also use a box mix if you prefer.
Once the cupcakes were cooking, I mixed up this simple Cream Cheese Frosting recipe. A basic buttercream or vanilla frosting would be great as well.
- ½ cup softened butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 8 oz softened cream cheese
- 3-4 cups confectioner's sugar
- Cream the butter and cream cheese together in a mixing bowl until incorporated.
- Add the vanilla and confectioner's sugar and mix well.
- I like to add 3 cups of sugar and then you can add more to taste.
Once your frosting is done you can either leave it white or you can add just a few drops of green food coloring. Stir well. If you prefer to keep it white, there are some pretty Wilton Blue and White Snowflakes that would look fantastic on these.
Next plop it all in a pastry bag and I used a Wilton tip to create easy circular swirls like a tree. The Wilton tips are about $.99 at Joann’s and make your cupcakes look so much prettier- well worth the investment.
Add a few sprinkles to your cupcake to look like ornaments. I used plain ivory but there are tons of colors to choose from in the baking aisle or at craft stores.
Last you want to add the star- I found these little Wilton baking sugar stars to use but I think a yellow M&M would work just fine.
And now you are all done!
If you want to do a very light dusting of powdered sugar it will look like you have snowy trees. You can either use a sifter to sprinkle the powdered sugar or I have found glass powdered sugar shakers and salt shakers at the Dollar Tree. I actually let the kids loose with powdered sugar in a salt shaker and that was a big hit.
Now enjoy your delicious and lovely cupcakes!
