I mentioned last week I thought it would be fun to start a book club and well. here we are! Yeah! The first book up is the Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up.
A HUGE thank you to those of you that joined me Tuesday for the little periscope book club. I hope you will join me again Tuesday at 10am PST when we talk phase 2 of Marie Kondo’s method– books, books, books.
Ok so to take a step back to part 1 which is clothing. We did all of our clothing and it feels like such an accomplishment 🙂 Definitely motivating to keep going forward with her system. I regularly purge clothing for myself and the kids but this time around I was very intentional. Things that didn’t fit, were looking shabby, were pretty but I just don’t wear or don’t suit me… Gone, gone, gone, gone.
I got rid of all the stuff I have been holding onto until I lose 5 pounds and boy oh boy does it feel good. Marie Kondo talks a lot about how a space feels and at first glance it might seem silly but honestly I can say my closet just feels very light and bright and fresh now. I am for sure motivated to keep things looking this good.
So tasks on clothing I still need to finish:
- List handbags for sale on Ebay
- Mend (2) pairs of jeans I still love
- Hang full length mirror in closet
And I am hoping to finish that this weekend. We did haul all of our stuff to goodwill and it wound up being about 15 bags (!)
Oh and if you did catch me on periscope, I showed how I have been organizing our dressers. Marie Kondo talks about folding clothing up into little squares so it fits neatly into a dresser.
I did this a few years ago and I agree with her whole heartedly. It makes a big difference. Here is the post from last year that I detailed out how to make simple dividers for the dresser. The one update I need to make to this post is that before I used plywood for the dividers but more recently I switched to using inexpensive foam board from Walmart and it works just as well if not better!
So that is it for clothing and next on the schedule is books! How are you guys coming along? Feeling good? Ready to quit? Still waiting for a good time to start?
Just a reminder that I have a free printable checklist to keep you on track with her system available here.
*Periscope is a free app you can find in the app store. You will want to download it, register and then click on the three people icon on the bottom right. That should bring up the search bar to search “frugal adventure” (me!) Click follow and then the app will give you a cute little whistle when I broadcast. If you are able to jump on, you can add live comments for a virtual discussion. Fun! If you can’t log on at that moment, you have 24 hours to go back and watch and then the video vanishes. If you watch the replay at a later time you are able to give hearts (basically a thumbs up) but you can’t leave comments.

I love the periscope videos! It’s right during the 4 year olds gymnastics, but I am able to watch it when I get home. I haven’t finished clothing yet but we are getting there. Books are going to be a challenge for us. We have so many kids books and every night before bed we usually read one or two. We have a six month old that we want to share certain special books with so I’m not sure what we are going to do. Our daughter isn’t reading yet, so I don’t know if I need to have some easy ones she can read when she starts. Any advice on what I should keep for her?

Hi Maura- thanks! It always feels wierd to talk to myself 😀 ok so I don’t think that is clutter at all. At that age the kids read the same books over and over so those are so worth keeping! My girls are 6 and 8 and have pretty much graduated to chapter books which is why we got rid of a bunch. We still have a crate of books in each girl’s closet. If I am going to have clutter in the house, books would be my first choice 🙂 I would just keep your stash until the kids get too old- you have years to go 🙂 Goodnight Moon was a huge one for us- it was the first book my daughter could “read”. Llama llama, Pinkilicious, Ladybug girl are also favorites.
