I have a really yummy alternative to hot chocolate for you to try. This is a sweet treat for sure and it is so perfect with little sprinkles of Peppermint or add a candy cane into the cup as a stir stick and it is really delicious.
It has been raining a lot lately and I wanted something warm and comforting to bring as a teat for my girls when I pick them up from school. We love hot chocolate but inevitably, hot chocolate is dripped or spilled on our clothes and can create a mess. (Even with a sippy cup- I swear I don’t know how they do it!)
So I decided to try a white chocolate as something different and if that spills- well not as big of a stain on the shirt 🙂
So this is really simple to make and SO good! I love this super, super hot to sip on cold nights. Just comforting and sweet and creamy and perfect. Â I was a little nervous to try this recipe because I have had white chocolate mochas at Starbucks in the past and did not care for them. Â I think what I like about this recipe is that you get the pure flavor of white chocolate and a creaminess from the milk. Â So while it is sweet you don’t get that artificial flavor that comes with using syrups and such.
To make this is extremely easy and again you can absolutely adapt this to your own personal taste.
If you are having a Frozen party- or even just a Frozen movie night- this would be a perfect treat as the white chocolate is so pretty! Â Top with whipped cream and some blue sprinkles and this would look amazing!
- 1 cup milk (I used 2%)
- 1 cup half and half
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ cup white chocolate chips
- Add milk and half and half to a saucepan on low heat.
- Add in white chocolate chips and vanilla.
- Use a whisk to stir well and completely dissolve the white chocolate.
- Once the mixture hits the temperature you like, sprinkle with cinnamon and remove from heat.
- Pour into a mug and top with whipped cream, peppermint pieces or milk chocolate shavings.
.
To lighten this recipe up you can use (2) cups of milk and skip the half and half. Â I actually prefer 2 cups of low fat milk myself. Another option would be vanilla flavored almond milk- I would use an unsweetened variety.
And then you can adjust the amount of white chocolate chips according to how sweet you like the drink. Â Just make sure you get a really good quality white chocolate- I prefer Ghirardelli. Â It makes a huge difference in flavor.
And as for the cinnamon, I really don’t measure it out, I just sprinkle it on the top as I remove the saucepan from the stove. Â If you plan to add peppermint to your drink, you might skip the cinnamon. Â You can sprinkle a little nutmeg in with the cinnamon as well for more flavor.
I hope you enjoy this drink!
