Walgreens has updated their coupon policy. There are several changes that you will want to be aware of.
You can take a look at the new policy here but I wanted to highlight a few of the biggest changes:
- Walgreens will not accept coupons that exceed the selling price of an item and no cash back is ever provided in exchange for any coupons.
It looks like Walgreens will no longer adjust coupons down. I have personally always found Walgreens to be a pain about this anyway but for now if you have a $.99 cent item and a $1.00 off coupon, you won’t be able to use that $1.00 coupon.
- For offers when multiple items are purchased and additional items are free (buy 1 get 1 free; buy 2 get 1 free, etc.), the number of coupons applied to that offer cannot exceed the number of items required in the “buy” portion of the offer.
Now we can only use one coupon on BOGO sales- so if Tide is Buy One Get One Free $4.99/2 you would only be able to use one coupon total not (2) coupons).
This is kind of an interesting note-
- When purchasing multiple items, Walgreens accepts multiple coupons for multiple qualifying items, as long as there is sufficient stock to satisfy other customers, unless a limit is specified on the coupon. Management reserves the right to limit the quantity of items purchased and/or prohibit the purchase of excessive quantities. An excessive quantity is any quantity above and beyond normal household usage.
So it seems to me like Extreme Couponing is make a bit of a comeback and it sounds like Walgreens might not allow purchasing large quantities of items anymore.
Another note is that Walgreens will not accept internet printed coupons for free products. We don’t see these very often anyway and you can still use free product coupons from the newspaper or from the manufacturer just not printed ones.
You can see the entire Walgreens coupon policy here.
Any other big points to note that you see?

I can’t say I blame them. I have met people who have stockpiles – like dozens of each item – and they resell them. :-/ I also hate going in for a freebie/cheap deal on something I need and the store is OUT of the stuff before Sunday is even over. I haven’t even been trying for the last couple months, though my local Walgreens did give me a raincheck for the last thing I wanted and I actually got it for free instead of paying $20 and getting $20 in RR, which was nice for me, but probably not what corporate is going for!
Our Walgreens has not allowed excessive quantities all along. You have to go every day if you want more than one.
I don’t have a problem with this at all. I don’t ever use a coupon on the “Free” item in a bogo…. it just seems not “right” to me.
