I know many of you have an Amazon Prime membership so I wanted to make sure everyone was aware of the price increase. Soon the yearly membership will go up to $99 per year or $49 for students.
So if your membership is about due for renewal, it looks like you will be charged the new higher rate.
You can go into your Amazon account and click on manage Prime membership and it will tell you when your plan renews and at what price.
If you are a member that will renew at $99, some people have found they can purchase a gift membership for the date of your current membership ending. Send that to yourself and you should be able to lock in the lower price for another year.
I do not know if that will work or not and I do want to caution you that Amazon will close accounts from people that violate their terms. I am personally not willing to risk my membership because I love it so I will just pay the higher fee myself.
Now I did test this and as of today, you can still join Prime for the old rate ($79/year). So, if you are wanting to get this now is the time.
If you are curious about the benefits of Prime, you can head over here to learn more.
It includes two day shipping for free on any purchase so that is one huge plus for me. Plus I can stream movies, tv shows and read books for free too! So definitely some nice perks. It works out to about $8 per month so if you rent a lot of movies or have tried NetFlix this might be another option.

I got the email today… But I think the price changes to $99/year next year.. My membership is up for renewal at the end of March and they said it will still be $79 this year 🙂

I think it changes to $99 in 2015, at least for current members. That’s what my email seemed to say. I get so much use out of Prime that I’m def still renewing when it happens.

Kimberly- it depends on your renewal date. Mine is Jan so my rate will go up to $99 in Jan. But everyone will be different 🙂

Aw I see. I guess I lucked out on my renewal time then!

I’m one of the people that signed up last year for the prime at 7.99 per month. Yes, I know that it cost more money in the long run. However, it is easier for me with my finances to pay monthly. I feel it much less than the one bigger payment. I didn’t receive an email. I’m already paying 96 dollars/year because of the payment plan. I love it and use my prime membership everyday whether it be movies, shipping or my kindle content. I would still pay 99 even if I did pay the annual fee. It’s totally worth my time. I’ve gotten to the point that I abhor going to the store. The only stores that I want to go to anymore are the craft stores;). My husband is happy to do the grocery shopping, so I let him.

Melissa- personally I agree. I hate the stores most of the time too and I always feel guilty because I wind up taking the kids with me and that is always time we could have done something together instead :). Time is one thing I don’t think is valued enough so for $8 per month if you can skip at least one stop that seems worth it to me 🙂

boy, that’s the last time I let DH decide on a deal. We’ve been paying $99 a year all along! Can’t complain, we’ve made great use of the streaming video and free ship
