Here are two fun Valentine’s Day “treat” ideas that aren’t really treats. My kids still got a kick out of these and they are super fast.
I had this idea to put heart shapes into their drinks for a fun Valentine’s Day treat. The first idea involves a drop of food coloring and milk and the second idea is with fresh fruit and either lemonade or water.
I used a mini cookie cutter in the shape of a heart and cut out little hearts from strawberries. This would also work with melon or Kiwi.
Next I placed the cut fruit into the cups of a mini muffin pan and just barely covered the fruit in water. I popped it in the freezer so the mini muffin pan serves as an ice cube tray. In a few hours it will freeze and you can pup the little hearts out and put them in water or lemonade.
I think it makes a fun little drink and it might encourage your little ones to drink more water.
For the next recipe I just used a drop of food coloring. I know many people try to avoid food coloring in your food. You can buy all natural food coloring from stores like Whole Foods or buy from Amazon here.
I poured some milk into a small measuring cup. (The amount will depend on how many ice cubes you want- roughly 1/2 cup for a full ice tray).
Next take one or two drops of food coloring so your milk is going to turn pink. Stir it together and pour into a heart shaped ice cube tray. (I bought mine at Michael’s for $1.99- cheaper with a coupon.)
Pop in the freezer for a few hours.
When you are ready to use they pop right out of the ice cube tray and they will melt quickly so get ready to use them! You can drop these in standard milk and you will have a floating little heart shape. If it melts no biggie- the milk will just turn a slightly pinkish color.
Cute right? And super easy!
