And August is already upon us! This tends to be a crazy month with everyone going back to school and I am started to look forward to fall. (Apple cider anyone?)
August is a great month for lots of yummy produce. It is also a big transition month because we will see the last of the outdoor stuff on sale for Labor Day (grilling items, sodas, ice cream, bug spray etc…). Many of us are not yet back to school but the start of August is when we start to see the school supply sales slow down and the selection can really dwindle down in many stores.
I did check back for 2012, 2011 and 2010 and it looks like the very end of the month is when Target started to mark school supplies down. My guess is Thursday the 22nd or Thursday the 29th is when they might drop things to 30% off. My store last year had almost nothing left by the time they started clearance but I do usually find a few good deals on stray backpacks, lunchbags and notebooks in particular.
This is also a great month for school lunch products- we see great prices on convenience and snack foods, juice boxes, peanut butter and more.
As far as produce you can look forward to plums, apples, berries, peaches, avocado, corn, tomatoes and more. Typically these items are the most flavorful and since they are in season you tend to get the best prices.
Looking ahead to September we will see the last of the back to school clearance, some sales on fall clothing, clearance on labor day items and the start of the holiday season! Expect to see Halloween displays and many stores will already have Christmas items out!
