If you don’t have a secret homemade hamburger seasoning recipe up your sleeve, you might try this one. It makes a WORLD of difference on your burgers and literally takes just a second to put together.
You can even make bigger batches and keep this on hand for summer grilling.
I am a vegetarian and my husband mixes this up and puts this on my Veggie Burgers too- it really amps up the flavor. The little salt shaker I use for my homemade seasoning is from the Dollar Store.
This is super budget friendly- you probably have these ingredients on hand and you will notice a big difference in your burgers. It is so worth mixing this up- I really hope you try it.
- Paprika
- Cayenne
- Onion Powder
- Garlic Powder
- Sea Salt
- Black Pepper
- Add ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- and ½ teaspoon onion powder
- and ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (use ¼ teaspoon if you don't want as much kick)
- and 2 teaspoon paprika
- and black pepper and sea salt to taste.
- I do about 4-5 twists of each.
- Stir together and that is it! Easy peasy.
So this is super simple to put together and it will compliment a variety of burger recipes. If you are in the mood for something a little more decadent add a little A-1 or Worstershire sauce (or both!)
Yummy!
I’d love to hear if you try this and what you think!

While I’m not a vegetarian, I do enjoy a good veggie burger. Would you mind sharing the recipe for yours sometime?
Charlene says
LOL- Virginia I have not tried making my own :). My recipe is open the box and put on the grill ;D. Actually I have been a vegetarian for cough…22 years now… cough… so way before they had vegetarian products to buy. My Dad used to buy this revolting powder mix that made veggie “burgers” in an effort to support me. I think I still have nightmares of that stuff ;).
I like Morningstar Grillers and I only eat them when my husband grills them for me. A frying pan doesn’t taste the same- he uses the indoor grill top thing or outside on the real grill.

We buy the Morningstar Farms burgers too. Do you recommend seasoning before or after cooking?
P.S. I’ve been trying recipes for seitan and they have been good. Do you eat seitan?
Charlene says
Cathy, no I don’t know what that is. I season before.

I have a very similar recipe that I found online for “Grill Seasoning” which can be bought in stores, but is cheaper to make if you already have the spices on hand. I use it year-round when I broil meats that would probably taste better grilled. It’s really good on hot dogs and steaks and after reading this post, I think I’ll try it on hamburgers too!
Janel says
i usually add these same spices to my meat when I am making hamburgers- it never occurred to me to combine the ingredients in bulk ahead of time to save time when I am making dinner- sometimes I wonder about myself! Thanks for sharing this- I will be making a batch tomorrow!!!!

This seasoning sounds great I will definitely try it.
I like the BOCO veggie burgers. If you’re looking for less calories and more protein you might want to give them a try.
Thanks for all of the great ideas and recipes you post.
Charlene says
Brenda I am a vegetarian :). I use this on Morningstar Garden Burgers. I like Boca too and my kids like the veggie burgers but my husband eats real ground beef. We use this same seasoning on everyone’s burger.

I’ve made this rub for hamburger and grilled chicken. It is awesome. Have you ever made this in bulk? I’m thinking it might make great gifts.
Charlene says
Hi Trish- I am so glad you liked it! No I haven’t made it in bulk but I do agree. Perfect little something to give people 🙂

So god luv ya. I am a rookie cook. But I am real old. I actually had all of those ingredients. That is close to being a first. 🙂 Amazing.
What is 6 servings in terms of amount of beef was my only thoughtful question. I figured 5.33 servings @ one pound of ground beef. I pretty much followed the exact amounts. I did add a splash of A-1 and Worchester too.
Anyhow, I cooked it up. I toasted a few pieces of bread, added a slice of tomato, onion, and swiss cheese, as well as, some yellow mustard. It was very tasty. The flavor was deep enough in the beginning that you where able to enjoy each bite. Thanks!
Todd

Hi Todd- so glad.
We are big burger people and I was so surprised at how much flavor this adds to a recipe. Totally worth the few seconds to mix it up 🙂
Briana Ratcliff says
I am not a vegetarian but I have tried the Boco Burgers and they taste pretty good! I will have to try this blend of seasoning the next time we make hamburgers.
Charlene says
Yup Briana- takes them to a different level 🙂

I was wondering how much seasoning you use per pound of ground beef?
