Well the deal this week is just nuts at Safeway. I have to tell you I have been couponing for years and years now and these days I don’t get excited very often.
I was very excited this week though and I didn’t want to mention this until I had a chance to test it in person. Click below for the scoop!
Now this requires a little work on your part so don’t just race out the door quite yet. The first thing is that you really, really want to understand Just for U before you read on. If you are not familiar with the program I would encourage you to read all about it here.
There is a Kraft catalina promotion I have mentioned several times. This is working at all the Safeway family stores and you can mix and match items to get the following:
- Buy 3-5 products and get $2
- Buy 6-9 products and get $5
- Buy 10+ products and get $10
It looks like the following items are both on sale this week and qualify for the promotion:
- Crystal Light $1.66
- Kraft Salad Dressing $2.99- Buy One Get One Free
- Oscar Mayer Hot Dogs $1.99
- Oscar Mayer lunchmeat $3.99
- Kraft Cheese Singles $2.50
Now on top of that, there are coupons and Just for U coupons that make this a great deal but the catch is that everyone’s Just for U account is a little different.
Here is a deal that anyone can do:
Buy 10 Oscar Mayer Hot Dogs $1.99
Use $1/1 Just for U coupon
Pay $9.90 and get back a $10 catalina coupon!!
Now the Just for U coupons seem to be working for all the items in your transaction but it is just one time. So you can do a transaction and get 10 of them if you want and the $1 coupon will come off for each pack. If you want to go back and get a second transaction of 10 more packs, the coupon will not work again but you can use the $1/2 Oscar Mayer coupons (if you grabbed them).
Here is another idea:
Buy 8 Kraft Salad Dressing at $2.99
Buy 2 Kraft Singles Cheese at $2.50
– 4 of the Kraft is free at checkout (per BOGO sale)
Use (2) $1/2 Kraft Salad Dressing coupon
and Use (2) $.71/1 Kraft singles coupon from Just for U
Pay $13.54 and get back a $10 catalina
Final Price: $.35 each!
Thanks to reader Franki for that great scenario idea- she had no problems with the salad dressing and the free salad dressing DID count toward the catalina for her. (Note the Kraft singles Just for U coupon appears to have a limit of 2.)
If your Just for U has a personal price of $1.88 for the salad dressing, this same deal works out to about a $.90 moneymaker.
Here is another idea that anyone can do:
Buy 10 Crystal Light at $1.66 each
Pay $16.60 and get back a $10 catalina
Final Price: $6.60 or $.66 each!
PLUS for Crystal Light there is a bonus catalina offer running:
Crystal Light (single packets excluded)
Available 08/06/2012 through 09/02/2012
Buy 2, get $1
Buy 3, get $2
Buy 4 or more, get $3
So for the scenario above, your final price is $3.60 for all 10 OR try this:
Buy 4 Crystal Light at $1.66
Pay $6.64 and get back $3.00 from Crystal Light plus $2 from Kraft for a net price of .41 each!
And last but not least, here is what I did. You might check your Just for U account. My account has a personal price of $2.49 for Oscar Mayer Deli Fresh lunchmeat.
There is also a $1.11 Oscar Mayer Just for U coupon- making my net price $1.38 so I did this:
Buy 10 packs of Oscar Mayer lunchmeat $2.49
Use $1.11 Just for U coupon
Pay $13.80 and get back a $10 catalina!
Final Price: $.38 per pack
Now again I think you can only do one transaction to use the $1.11 coupon BUT there is also a $1/1 Oscar Mayer coupon so you could go back and get more with that coupon.
If you do not have a personal price on the lunchmeat, the price isn’t as great about $1.88 net per pack after coupons and catalina.
So I hope this all makes sense- just be certain you save the coupons and personal prices to your card before you head out! I can’t wait to hear what transactions you guys come up with!

I did double check my personal deals – I hadn’t realized they were listed separately – my price is $2.88, so with coupon if I buy 10 and subtract the catalina, it comes to $0.77 each for me (If I did all my math correctly). I found out that Oscar Mayer Turkey Selects hot dogs work for the store coupons and Kraft Catalina. There are $1/1 coupons for these on Facebook
Once I didn’ t get Crystal Light Cataliina when I also purchased Reach toothbrushes. I wonder if there’s a conflict some other problem. As long as I stick to Kraft & Crystal light, they’ve been printing like clockwork.
All the local stores no longer take coupons that don’t scan, and the single barcode coupons don’t scan at self checkout. They scan at regular checkstnd, but finding it uch more time consuming to roll that way.
I went on Saturday and purchased 10 of the OM lunchmeat (roast beef, oven roasted turkey, black forest ham) with my personalized price. I also used 2 coupons. I did not get the catalina back so I will call them tomorrow. I did gett the $10 for spending $75 (which is rare for me.) My store had the OM Selects hot dogs on sale for $1.99 so I got 10 of those (in a separate transaction), plus I used the coupon I had for a free pack (took off $1.99). I paid $7.22 OOP and got back the $10 catalina. Loving that one!
Oh and I had the $1.11 off on the OM lunchmeat as well.
Bought 4 of the lunch meats and no Catalina printed. I’m pretty sure I purchased the right ones because my personalized price and ecoupon came off. I also received a bunch of other coupons at the register, but no $2. Darn!

Charlene, Did your catalina for the lunch meat say “from Kraft” or something along those lines? I bought ten of the lunch meats and got one that just says $10 reward coupon. I’m confused and think I might have only gotten the $75+ purchase reward and not the lunch meat one.

I think only the Oscar Mayer Deli Fresh is included in the Kraft catalina. The roast beef I saw at Safeway is Oscar Mayer Select.
Um… I used it already but I think it did say save $10 courtesy of Kraft. I think on the right side it mentioned the $10 savings and broke it down by how many items you spent. At the very least you should see a remittance address on there that says Kraft. If not you probably got the $75 one.

I bought 10 Kraft items (5 hot dogs and 5 singles) on saturday and only got $2 cat… I just created a support case for that and my HBO catalina. I think I’m going to go back today and get the Crystal Light. Hopefully they still have some!

Thank you for posting the note about the “no scan-no take” policy at Safeway Bay Area. I posted a question about that on another post/link because I couldn’t figure out why my Hormel and Allegra coupons wouldn’t scan in the “main” checkout. I now see that the Hormel and Allegra coupons have a single barcode you pointed out. In my case, after the cashier walked away and then swiped them after five times they finally scanned.
I plan on using the Allegra coupon at Target in the East Bay. I hope I don’t have the same problem there.
Sigh looks like I’m not the only one with an issue! I got 4 Kraft dressing, 2 lunch meat, 2 singles, and 2 hotdogs and go no Catalina 🙁

I did this deal and it worked perfectly today I went to buy power ADR at my just4U price and combine with a just4u coupon .75 off of every 3. The .75 cents only came off once even though I bough 114 powers des. I don’t usually buy in this quantity but with the price and coupon it was a great deal and I knew I has to do it all in one transaction. Was at the store a very loooong Time. It seems that there is no policy to refer to on this and is up for interpretation. You seemed to have first hand knowledge of the policy but the store managers and the just 4u hot line do not. How can I get ahold of the info so that I don’t have to go through that again. Thank you

I wish they would get their act together as far as the coupon policy. It really needs to be updated to reflect the Just for U program. It hasn’t been updated since January. I have asked a bunch of times and I get no where basically.
I have asked them to put in writing that the cents off coupons are indeed store coupons and get turned around in 20 directions and then nothing ever happens. It is so frustrating.
The Power Ade does say one time so it should have worked for 114 of them :). I guess the best solution is to call the specific Just for U phone number in the future- the number is 877-723-3929.
