Well the deal this week is just nuts at Safeway. I have to tell you I have been couponing for years and years now and these days I don’t get excited very often.
I was very excited this week though and I didn’t want to mention this until I had a chance to test it in person. Click below for the scoop!
Now this requires a little work on your part so don’t just race out the door quite yet. The first thing is that you really, really want to understand Just for U before you read on. If you are not familiar with the program I would encourage you to read all about it here.
There is a Kraft catalina promotion I have mentioned several times. This is working at all the Safeway family stores and you can mix and match items to get the following:
- Buy 3-5 products and get $2
- Buy 6-9 products and get $5
- Buy 10+ products and get $10
It looks like the following items are both on sale this week and qualify for the promotion:
- Crystal Light $1.66
- Kraft Salad Dressing $2.99- Buy One Get One Free
- Oscar Mayer Hot Dogs $1.99
- Oscar Mayer lunchmeat $3.99
- Kraft Cheese Singles $2.50
Now on top of that, there are coupons and Just for U coupons that make this a great deal but the catch is that everyone’s Just for U account is a little different.
Here is a deal that anyone can do:
Buy 10 Oscar Mayer Hot Dogs $1.99
Use $1/1 Just for U coupon
Pay $9.90 and get back a $10 catalina coupon!!
Now the Just for U coupons seem to be working for all the items in your transaction but it is just one time. So you can do a transaction and get 10 of them if you want and the $1 coupon will come off for each pack. If you want to go back and get a second transaction of 10 more packs, the coupon will not work again but you can use the $1/2 Oscar Mayer coupons (if you grabbed them).
Here is another idea:
Buy 8 Kraft Salad Dressing at $2.99
Buy 2 Kraft Singles Cheese at $2.50
– 4 of the Kraft is free at checkout (per BOGO sale)
Use (2) $1/2 Kraft Salad Dressing coupon
and Use (2) $.71/1 Kraft singles coupon from Just for U
Pay $13.54 and get back a $10 catalina
Final Price: $.35 each!
Thanks to reader Franki for that great scenario idea- she had no problems with the salad dressing and the free salad dressing DID count toward the catalina for her. (Note the Kraft singles Just for U coupon appears to have a limit of 2.)
If your Just for U has a personal price of $1.88 for the salad dressing, this same deal works out to about a $.90 moneymaker.
Here is another idea that anyone can do:
Buy 10 Crystal Light at $1.66 each
Pay $16.60 and get back a $10 catalina
Final Price: $6.60 or $.66 each!
PLUS for Crystal Light there is a bonus catalina offer running:
Crystal Light (single packets excluded)
Available 08/06/2012 through 09/02/2012
Buy 2, get $1
Buy 3, get $2
Buy 4 or more, get $3
So for the scenario above, your final price is $3.60 for all 10 OR try this:
Buy 4 Crystal Light at $1.66
Pay $6.64 and get back $3.00 from Crystal Light plus $2 from Kraft for a net price of .41 each!
And last but not least, here is what I did. You might check your Just for U account. My account has a personal price of $2.49 for Oscar Mayer Deli Fresh lunchmeat.
There is also a $1.11 Oscar Mayer Just for U coupon- making my net price $1.38 so I did this:
Buy 10 packs of Oscar Mayer lunchmeat $2.49
Use $1.11 Just for U coupon
Pay $13.80 and get back a $10 catalina!
Final Price: $.38 per pack
Now again I think you can only do one transaction to use the $1.11 coupon BUT there is also a $1/1 Oscar Mayer coupon so you could go back and get more with that coupon.
If you do not have a personal price on the lunchmeat, the price isn’t as great about $1.88 net per pack after coupons and catalina.
So I hope this all makes sense- just be certain you save the coupons and personal prices to your card before you head out! I can’t wait to hear what transactions you guys come up with!

Do you know if the catalina is rolling?

I do not know from testing it myself however catalinas roll 99.99% of the time at Safeway stores. Really the only store to be concerned with that is Walgreens. The worst case you have is that it does not print and you have to call catalina to have them mail it to you, so I would say it is pretty safe :).
I was jumping for joy over the lunchmeat until I opened my Just For U account and I don’t have the personalized price. 99% of the time I have the ones you do … we just ran out of lunchmeat from the last Target promo and I had to buy my husband some last week at full price (~$3) …. GASP! I think I might just have to settle with the $1.88 price and stock up again … Crying sad tears over here! LOL
Okay, so I just signed up, but didn’t get the lunch meat personalized coupon 🙁 Oh well. I did get one for Kraft salad dressing for $1.88. SO, I should be able to get 8 plus 2 lunch meats for $9.28 and get back a $10 catalina. Not a bad deal 😀 Too bad just got 6 bottles of the Ken’s dressing last week 🙂 Oh well, my sisters can use it 🙂
Okay, now I just found another justforu coupon for $1 off Kraft ranch or italian dressing. How do you think THAT will work out??

The one in my account says 24oz for the dressing and I am thinking that isn’t on sale? I have the personal price of $1.88 as well but it is 14-16oz.
I didn’t get the lunch meat one either but I had a personalized price of 1.88 on kraft dressing so a MM and i can keep rolling it. So excited to shop this week!

Thank you! I just got back from safeway and bought 10 hot dogs (1.99 – 1.00) and 10 of the lunch meat (personal price of $2.49 – 1.11) and got two $10 cats back (separate transactions). I also got 4 crystal light at $1.66 ea and got a $2 and a $3 cat back for those and was super excited to get both!! Woo hoo! Also, Lays potato chips are $4.29 BOGO, so if you have the $3/1 coupon from the other day it is only $1.29 for two bags.

Be careful if you printed the lays coupon from the Penny Pincher site or whatever it was. Those coupons are fraudulent. If you printed them from coupon network or Facebook they are fine.
So you had overlapping catalinas on Crystal Light? You should have $2.00 back on 4 but you got (2) catalinas back on 4?

Worked great! Did one transaction of all hot dogs, rec’d the $10 Cat, and turned around, did second transaction of all salad dressings, and successfully “rolled” the $10 Cat, and rec’d a new $10 Cat.

There are two offers for the lunchmeat. The first component I used is the personal price of $2.49 and the second is the coupon you found for $1.11 off. If you do not have the Just for U price, it will be $3.99 per pack which is really not a great deal. You can get these for $2.79 starting Sunday at Target- so $1.79 after the printable coupon.

I did a different deal this week, I don’t need so much of one item. Personal price on lunchmeat of $2.88, used Just 4 U coupon of $1.11. Kraft singles $2.50, used $1 off printable from last week. Hot dogs, $1.99 used $1 off Just 4 U coupon. Paid $4.26 got $2 back so $.75 each item

I agree. I don’t really need so much of any one item either and the lunchmeat is the only thing we will really eat. I wouldn’t have bought 10 except I wanted to make sure it worked. I think you got a great deal 🙂 My original scenario was a little more conservative.
Thank you for posting this! We bought 10 of the hot dogs and one fresh express salad. Hot dogs produced the $10 Catalina and salad was .99 minus $1.00 off coupon made it free. Lovin these deals at Vons!
I am a little confused. I thought the one time coupon would only work on one item, but your example shows it working on 10 lunchmeats.
I can’t speak for Safeway because we don’t have Safeway in the Midwest, but this Kraft catalina is running at one of our local stores called HyVee. They have similar sale prices this week for the dressing, hot dogs, lunch meat, etc. I successfully rolled this catalina yesterday afternoon.

The form actually says 7ct+ so any size that is greater then 7ct will work.

There is a lot more detail in the Just for U post that is linked at the top of the page. In short though, the Just for U coupon is a manufacturer coupon so it can not be stacked with another manufacturer coupon.
In reguards to the just for you price on coca cola of 3.67. I had this, this morning on my J4U page around 4:30 am ( way to early to be looking at safeway just for you deals, i know but….) as of about 8:30 this morning it is no longer on my just for you personalized price page. Very frustrating. Has this happened to anyone else?

I just came form Safeway and the lunchmeat worked like a charm, but the kraft cat for the crystal light didn’t print. Is there a way to contact the company and get the $10 cat issued?
Just make sure you buy the regular Honey Bunches of Oats I got the strawberries and they did not give me a catalina.

I picked up 4 turkey hot dogs (all the regular ones were wiped out) and 6 crystal lights and got the $10 catalina…however, I didn’t get the crystal light catalina that you mentioned Charlene…do you know if that was regional? (like the Honey Bunches of Oats…didn’t get that one either and I bought 4). I live in the Bay Area. Wasn’t sure if I should contact the catalina company or not. Thanks!

It should be a national catalina so I would call. It is listed on coupon network so I would for sure call or send an email.

Susan that was the price here- it wasn’t listed in the ad though so there could be some variation. That is a big difference though. Did you get the 14-16oz size?

Sharon, yes and you can buy as many as you like in one transaction and get $1.11 off each pack. You might check your personal deals tab and see if you have a special price on the lunchmeat.
