I usually get a handful of complaints each week on the Walgreens deals from readers that are not allowed to stack Walgreens coupon book coupons with manufacturer coupons.
The Walgreens coupon book coupons are indeed store coupons but they have verbage indicating manufacturer coupon which seems to create confusion for people.
I just wanted to highlight this ad that I noticed in my SmartSource insert today (4/17).
The ad that I found shows the following deal:
Scott Naturals Paper Towels 6roll $4.00
Use $1.50/1 coupon
or Use $1/6 Scott Naturals Paper Towels, exp. 5-29-11 (SS 04/17/11 #2)
and Use $1/1 from Walgreens coupon book
Final Price: as low as $2.50
So if you are one of those people that consistently has trouble stacking these coupons, you might pull this ad out and pull out the Scott coupon from the Walgreens coupon book and keep that with you. Clearly you can stack these coupons and Walgreens has even advertised this in a national newspaper insert.

Question: I got a catalina a little while back from walgreens for $2.50 off a 6 pack. It also says manufacture, but can it be stacked with the $1 wags cp AND the $1.50 manu cp. Or can it only be stacked with the wags cp.
Charlene says
Lacey it is either one or the other. So if it says manufacturer coupon, stack with the Wags one. If it says Wags coupon, stack with the mannie coupon. 2 coupons total per item 🙂

Thank you!! My first experience with walgreens/coupon deals the manager would not let me stack one manuf coupon with one walgreens coupon because he said it said Manuf coupon on it. I will be taking your advice thanks!

I just tried this today with a manufacturer’s coupon and a Walgreens coupon that printed from the register (not a Register Reward). I had a Reach $1 coupon and a $1 any Reach toothbrush that printed from the register at Walgreens, but since it said “Manufacturer’s coupon” on their coupon, they wouldn’t let me stack the two. I have in the past, but for some reason either they don’t now, or this lady was just not knowledgeable on how they stack. My usual cashier was not there this morning, so I won’t know if this is going to be a policy for my store now (which will make me totally choose another Walgreens because this is getting old!) or if this is actually a new policy for all Walgreens stores.

I was an Assistant Manager at a Walgreens before leaving to be a SAHM, so I think I can help with this. The trick to know if it is a Walgreens store coupon (and therefore can be stacked with a manufacturer coupon) is that store coupons will have a series of zeros with four digits at the end (ex: 00000009876). Most coupons in the walgreens ad and in the monthly booklet are these store coupons. Rarely, the ads feature a manufacture coupon (the Hallmark ones come to mind) and those would have a full set of numbers just like a manufacturers coupon and would not be able to be stacked. So if there is only the four digits at the end, it is store coupon and the cashier doesn’t need to keep it and the store doesn’t do anything with them. There should never be a problem using a store coupon with a manufacturers coupon. If your cashier tells you differently, just politely ask if you can talk to the manager about it.

Question: Are the coupons in Walgreen’s April Savings Book considered “in add coupon”?
meryl says
Trisha, in your scenario it sounds like both q’s are manu q’s- and likewise you should be able to use the wags coupon elsewhere as a manu q as that’s what it is!
This was told to me by a cashier. I have since used coupons with wag’s logo on it elsewhere but it is never easy to convince cashiers to try it if they are not knowledgeable about coupons= very frustrating. Nowadays, I just go to Walmart as mine accepts competitor’s q’s without question- they price match, AND they even accept register rewards- with no limit!
Dawn says
do you know what the price would be for the Naturals TP?? Thanks Charlene!! take care.
Charlene says
Jill an “in ad coupon” is not the same as a coupon book coupon. Those are literally coupons you cut from the ad. If you take a look at a weekly circular from Walgreens you should immediately see what an in ad coupon is.

I’ve found that if you have them scan the Walgreens coupon book coupon first, then it won’t let you stack, but if you do that second, then it does work. So, anyways, the point is to say that if it doesn’t work one way and the cashier will void the purchase and re-try the coupons in the opposite order it may work (it did for me!).

Charlene:
I was told by the cashier that when a tag on the shelf states “$__ w/ ad in coupon” that price includes the coupon in the book.
Thank you soo much for the clarification 🙂

It’s funny how Erin said to ask the manager about coupons because I’ve had a manager tell me that because I had coupons I wouldn’t get Register Rewards. He also told me he didn’t know how many coupons the register would take w/o freezing up (I didn’t know either). I need to keep a copy of their ad showing that they encourage coupons on an item they are advertising register rewards for along with the one you posted about wags/manufacture coupons.

Hi, everyone. I’m just started out with couponing. This message board and website has been incredibly helpful! Thank you so much for all of your help and information! Happy couponing!

Thank you for pointing the Scott towel ad out to us! I clipped out the ad & will be keeping it in my Walgreens coupon envelope. My Wags frequently gives me a hard time about stacking. Yesterday the manager would NOT let me use the Almay MQs with the Q in the coupon book. I wish they would educate their staff on their own policies! Thanks again for your help!
