I think most people are already familiar with Apartment Guide as a resource for finding apartment rentals across the United States. Many of the properties they feature also have floor plans, comprehensive photographs and other information to help you find the perfect rental space. In addition, Apartment Guide also has tips for entertaining and decorating.
And I was recently challenged by Apartment Guide to come up with fun, budget-friendly, entertaining ideas in smaller spaces.
I am actually planning a birthday party for my nephew so I decided to take on this challenge and see what I can come up with! We initially planned a backyard BBQ but the weather has changed those plans. Not to worry, we decided to just continue the celebration indoors! This is my nephew’s 21st birthday so we are having a Mexican Fiesta (his favorite food) and I am hoping to pull together a fun, vibrant party to celebrate.
To make this challenge more exciting, Apartment Guide is offering a $100 gift card giveaway to one My Frugal Adventures reader!
You will get a $100 American Express gift card that can be used anywhere you like. This giveaway will run through Wednesday at 4pm PST.

With 4 kids and 2 adults in our household, we ARE a party house! I’d love to host a luau party with the gift card.
And I’m a follower on Facebook. Keep up the good work!
We had a nice surprise party for my MIL a few years ago and were on a budget – we printed the invitations at home and made tasty finger foods from scratch (a lot less expensive than buying premade). It was December, so we had our Christmas decorations up and it looked really festive. I think she had a great time and was really surprised!
I would use the gift card to throw my son a Thomas the tank engine birthday party.

I would like to give my 2 sons a graduation party.
I would for sure save the gift card for my son’s birthday. My budget ideas would be plan early, and don’t worry about the matching cups, plates etc. I found some great ones at Big lots for like a quarter of the price.

Lots of passed apps instead of a full sit down meal

When I’m trying to save money on a budget for my daughter’s birthdays I will usually do something in a crockpot-like pulled pork-you can make LOTS of food, it’s good for cold weather…and it’s a crowd pleaser. Secondly, for favors instead of buying candy or toys I make themed cookies and put into a clear cellophane bag and tye with a pretty ribbon. So for a 21st birthday I would make do cookies that say 21 (like the number 2 and the number 1) in a clear bag with a fun 21themed ribbon….

I would love to have a Birthday Party for my husband. He is such a great guy and I want to show him that I love and appreciate him. 🙂
We just brought home our adopted son from Rwanda on Dec. 1st. He turns 3 on March 2nd. We are having a big birthday bash on March 4th for him. It will be his 1st actual birthday party. I can’t wait. I just went shopping at our local Party Outlet store, but all the decor was so expensive. So, I hopped over to The Dollar Store here in town. I can get 18 coung plates and napkins for $1 each. This will save me a bundle.
I also get the MFA e-mail Newsletter
I think one of the best tips for a frugal party is to plan it based around sales and deals. Serve food items that are on sales or can be obtained inexpensively. Also – keep it within budget by not going overboard!
I use crescent rolls to make every app imaginable. Soooooo inexpensive.

always ready for a party
The most budget friendly idea I have seen is to have the party pot luck style. Each guest is assigned a themed dish or item to bring and then you can all share. This leave more of the budget for entertainment, games, decorations, or souvenirs.

My husband’s 50th B-day is in April….so I would use the GC towards that. I think the best/frugal planning is catching paper goods on clearance.
