I think most people are already familiar with Apartment Guide as a resource for finding apartment rentals across the United States. Many of the properties they feature also have floor plans, comprehensive photographs and other information to help you find the perfect rental space. In addition, Apartment Guide also has tips for entertaining and decorating.
And I was recently challenged by Apartment Guide to come up with fun, budget-friendly, entertaining ideas in smaller spaces.
I am actually planning a birthday party for my nephew so I decided to take on this challenge and see what I can come up with! We initially planned a backyard BBQ but the weather has changed those plans. Not to worry, we decided to just continue the celebration indoors! This is my nephew’s 21st birthday so we are having a Mexican Fiesta (his favorite food) and I am hoping to pull together a fun, vibrant party to celebrate.
To make this challenge more exciting, Apartment Guide is offering a $100 gift card giveaway to one My Frugal Adventures reader!
You will get a $100 American Express gift card that can be used anywhere you like. This giveaway will run through Wednesday at 4pm PST.

I am planning my son’s Birthday party: I’m making the pinata instead of buying. I made kaleidoscopes, maracas, and muffin tin crayons, I plan on adding a few more items to the pinata from Target’s $1 section…this saved a lot and was Green 🙂 I’d love the $100 for his party Thanks silenttributary at yahoo dot com
An old school way to save money at a party is to make it BYOB! If you are a drinker or throw parties where alcohol is involved, it can be very pricey. I don’t drink, so I don’t like to pay for others’ to drink! LOL

If you’re serving crudite, cut and prepare the vegetables yourself–the party trays at the supermarket are convenient but way overpriced!

One of the things I do, if appropriate, to save money on a party is to host the party at a non meal time. People won’t be expecting full meal and I can provide a larger variety of appetizers that are sure to impress and please my guests! I usually try to inform my guests by letting them know “appetizers and dessert will served” so no one is caught off guard!

Pot lucks are always fun and cuts cost by alot!!!
For budget friendly parties I try to make as many of the decorations and games from things I already have around the house. With 3 young children being creative has allowed me to have many nice parties.

I would want to throw a girls night out party theme!!!
What I do to save money is to find creative ways to decorate. I am a teacher so I have lots of paper and stuff at school. I also LOVE to bake so that ALWAYS saves me a bundle!

I would love to have a 3rd birthday party for my son! My husband is in the military and will be deploying just after his birthday, so we really want him to have a great party and a great day!!! Budget friendly tip…make cupcakes yourself and let the children decorate. They will love doing it and you save the money from buying a cake!!

I would use it to plan my sons 2nd birthday party!
Pot lucks make for cheap parties, and less cooking for the host! 🙂

I suggest visiting the dollar store first to see if they have any inexpensive party favors. Another tactic is to buy decor during after season sales and saving it for next year’s party.
If you really want to be frugal, you can host a potluck and have guests bring in their favorite dish to share.
I make the cake. I find that cakes can be outrageously expensive to buy and they don’t even taste great. I put on my creativity hat and come up with something fun following our theme for my boys birthdays.

To save money I usually make everything from scratch and make Mexican food…..generally seems to be the cheapest! It’s amazing how many people you feed with some yummy tostadas and how cheap it is to make! Good luck on your party!
I am a HUGE MFA Fan on FB!!!
I’m all about budget parties. Using the internet, you can come up with decorations for any type of theme. You can use any toy as a theme, make your own cake, decorations, and games using just a bit of creativity. The most recent themes have been Candyland, Baby Einstein, bugs, and dinosaurs. I would love to use this gift card for the Toy Story birthday I am throwing in 2 months!
