I think most people are already familiar with Apartment Guide as a resource for finding apartment rentals across the United States. Many of the properties they feature also have floor plans, comprehensive photographs and other information to help you find the perfect rental space. In addition, Apartment Guide also has tips for entertaining and decorating.
And I was recently challenged by Apartment Guide to come up with fun, budget-friendly, entertaining ideas in smaller spaces.
I am actually planning a birthday party for my nephew so I decided to take on this challenge and see what I can come up with! We initially planned a backyard BBQ but the weather has changed those plans. Not to worry, we decided to just continue the celebration indoors! This is my nephew’s 21st birthday so we are having a Mexican Fiesta (his favorite food) and I am hoping to pull together a fun, vibrant party to celebrate.
To make this challenge more exciting, Apartment Guide is offering a $100 gift card giveaway to one My Frugal Adventures reader!
You will get a $100 American Express gift card that can be used anywhere you like. This giveaway will run through Wednesday at 4pm PST.

PBJ sandwices for the kids in a baggie. They love them, are inexpensive and everyone is happy! Don’t waste time with expensive kid food…
Budget Friendly Party Idea: If you have friends hosting parties near the same time as you (kids born same time of year, both holding Halloween/Valentine’s/Christmas etc. or Graduation parties), purchase your party items together from the same website and share shipping costs and even decorations.
Using everyday items to decorate for your party is a fantastic way to save money. When I had a bridal shower at my house, we used our sari’s (indian clothing” as drapes around the garage, we also used different sized crystal bowls that we own and filled them with cheap candies. The main color was pink so we used different shades of pink in bowls and it look beautiful. Another awesome idea is filling bowls with water, adding a drop of food color and then adding flower petals or floating candles. Looks very elegant! 🙂

When planning the menu, buy products that are on sale and can be combined with coupons. Stock up on decorations or items to make your own decorations when they are on clearance.

I recently hosted a budget-friendly party at my place by serving inexpensive, homemade snacks like chocolate covered pretzels, muffins, and extra candly the kids had leftover from valentines day. All snacks were served in clear glass bowls and candles were set between. You can make plain water look like a party beverage by slicing up lemons, limes, and oranges and mixing them in.

Frugal party hosting tip: Check out the dollar store! Also, for decoration, put fruit (such as lemons, limes, and oranges) in a clear plastic or glass bowl. Beautiful, natural, edible, and cheap! I did this recently when we had visitors from Indiana. The oranges showed off the bounty of California!

Budget Friendly Idea:
Host a BINGO party in your own home! You can order a small BINGO set (balls, cage, and all!) for a very reasonable price (around $12). Invite your friends to bring a treat to either share at the party (thus cutting down on your expenses) or bring a treat for a BINGO prize. That way when people get a BINGO they can choose a plate of goodies, or whatever people decide to bring! You can even have friends bring and share their favorite recipes for this party!
I am planning to have this party for myself soon! I’m excited and hope it’s a big hit!

Going to the Dollar Store early on for colored plates, silverware, napkins as well as streamers and any other coordinating decorations has helped our family out a lot. If I won the card, it would go towards FOOD! Our family has a few favorite take-out restaurants in the area and $100 would be wonderful!!!
