I think most people are already familiar with Apartment Guide as a resource for finding apartment rentals across the United States. Many of the properties they feature also have floor plans, comprehensive photographs and other information to help you find the perfect rental space. In addition, Apartment Guide also has tips for entertaining and decorating.
And I was recently challenged by Apartment Guide to come up with fun, budget-friendly, entertaining ideas in smaller spaces.
I am actually planning a birthday party for my nephew so I decided to take on this challenge and see what I can come up with! We initially planned a backyard BBQ but the weather has changed those plans. Not to worry, we decided to just continue the celebration indoors! This is my nephew’s 21st birthday so we are having a Mexican Fiesta (his favorite food) and I am hoping to pull together a fun, vibrant party to celebrate.
To make this challenge more exciting, Apartment Guide is offering a $100 gift card giveaway to one My Frugal Adventures reader!
You will get a $100 American Express gift card that can be used anywhere you like. This giveaway will run through Wednesday at 4pm PST.

One budget idea is to make your own sweet tea instead of buying soda. All it takes is tea bags, sugar and water and you can make gallons of a sweet beverage for pennies that’s perfect for parties.

Take people up on offer to bring something to the party…every little bit helps keep your costs down.

i like to look thift store for some plates, cups etc. when it comes to food I cook some stuff and using coupons help with cost reduction as well.
I would use the gift card to throw a party for my friends and all of our kids, we would probably have a couple different kinds of homemade soup and make your own pannini’s for dinner (super budget friendly). Maybe ice cream sundae’s for dessert, yum!
I am actually planning my son’s 2nd bday party right now…so I would use the gift card for that!
For a budget friendly party I usually have my guests bring a dish to pass…and of course, I coupon like mad!

I buy for the “goodie bags” throughout the year. Summer clearance at Target is a great time to stock up on bubbles, back to school sales for 25cent crayons etc.
My tip for a budget friendly party is to think about the party as far in advanced as possible so that when you see something you can use on clearance you can pick it up.

My son would LOVE a Star Wars party!
We are definitely on a budget this year. We are thinking of having a board game party (games we already own) and having a few inexpensive prizes. We would need some food (kids & adults). Way to connect with kids in play but using old school games (yahtzee, twister, monopoly, etc). No technology allowed.
I would host a 4th of July party.

I love, love, love planning my daughters’ birthday parties. Next on our list: Flower Party
I pick up party supplies on holiday clearance, especially 75% or more. I lot of things can be used for gift bags or decorations or kid’s entertainment if it’s not to obviously holiday themed.

Local grocery stores have great catering this most of the time cheaper than buying all the food and making yourself…and easier!!
Plan the menu around a coupon score!

Couple of tips: I ordered custom M&Ms online. Also, if I’m gonna cook something new and fancy for a party, I will first try it out to avoid any fiasco. Not that it had happened 😉 Thanks for the giveaway.
I would host a cupcake party!
A pool party! I’ve always wanted to have a pool birthday party for my boys. I’d rent out our neighborhoods pool and pavilion for the day, and invite all their friends for swimming, pizza, ice cream, and cake. How fun!

I would love a gift card to throw my twins their first birthday party this month! I like doing things like having everyone bring a dish or drink to share because everyone is always open to that and then you always have great variety!
p.s. I also follow MFA on Facebook – keep up the great work!

My parties are always budget friendly. We buy the items for our giftbags on clearance, including the bags. I make the cake myself and decorate. If there is any prepared food bought, it would be with coupononly. You could also make your own decorations as oppose to purchasing them. I would use this card to get the things I need for my dd 11th birthday which is in 1 week.
I also follow you on facebook. Thanks
I try to get paper products, table coverings, etc. from Dollar Tree. They have a pretty nice selection and the price is right!
I can’t wait for March to have my all green St. Patty’s Day party. Usually we have a potluck and it’s interesting to see all different green food people bring.
