Walgreens Nivea/Reach Scenario

Reader Dallas came up with a great scenario for the Listerine deal starting tomorrow at Walgreens.ย  Keep in mind this is how it should work, but I can’t promise it will work perfectly for everyone.

Here is the deal:

Buy 2 Reach Multiaction Toothbrushes at $4.49
Buy 1 Nivea for Men Body Wash at $5.99
Subtotal: $14.97
Use Buy One Get One Free Reach from 12/6 or 1/3 RP
Use $1/1 Reach Toothbrush from 3/7 or 5/16 RP (if your store will not allow both coupons, your total will be $1 more)
Use $3/1 Nivea Body Wash from 5/2 RP
Use $3/1 in ad coupon (use this last!*)
Final Price: $.48 + tax and get $5.99 back for the Nivea!

*The Walgreens cash registers are programmed to take the full coupon value off for each like item purchased. So one of the Reach coupons will actually take $3 off per item. There are a minority of stores around the country that will not allow a Register Reward to print when a coupon is used. You will need to learn the policy at your store- the vast majority will allow this with no problems.

Thanks Dallas!

Someone posted a Walgreens email on a blog a while back, where Walgreens stance on register rewards were as such (in my own words): at no point should a Walgreens employee decide whether or not a customer should receive any register rewards that print for them. Basically if they print – they must give them to you, regardless of the transaction. If stores are not giving you your rewards, I would get on phone with corporate immediately. Nothing in the rewards state that a coupon may not be used to purchase item which generates a reward. ๐Ÿ™‚

Kristin- I have also suggested that to the numerous readers that have complained. I don’t know if any have actually done anything about it. I know I always get several comments from people that have this issue and I just like to put a disclosure on my posts. I can’t do anything about it personally if a store wants to be difficult but I sure do hear about it ๐Ÿ™‚

I did this transaction this morning and it went great. There was only one problem. The reach coupon says free up to $3.99, so my cashier would only take off the $3.99. ๐Ÿ™ It was still a money maker though. Plus I didn’t get that $1 reach coupon. Booo!!!

ok so I just went to Wags to get my toothbrushes and it only deducted $3.00 because of the free one I got….BUT I went to Tum Thumb and took my RR and ended spending .11 cents for…. 1 coke, 3 waters, 2 hotdog buns, 2 ballpark franks, 1 box of taquitos, 1 can of pinto beans….yay me….But I was looked at like…..hahaha these are Walgreen coupons we dont accept them….Took out my printed coupon policy and shut them up quick…..yay me….

Ok, well I guess there are 2 different reach coupons. One has the limit at $3.99 and one has the limit at $4.99. My mistake!

This deal worked great for me this morning …thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚
Also: my walgreens cashier this morning informed me that the nivea body wash is also buy 1 get 1 free!!! I don’t know if this was a glitch but it worked for me in az, the manager told me to stock up while I could ๐Ÿ™‚ So I paid $3(used $3 off mens nivea coupon), got 2 body washes and got a $6 register reward…SUCCESS! ๐Ÿ™‚ hope it works for you guys too!

This didn’t work for me at my Happy Harry’s either….they are owned by Walgreens, but sometimes Walgreen’s coupons give problems at the register.

    Toothbrushes: $4.49 each. Total: $8.98.

BOGO coupon takes off: $4.49. $1 off/2 coupon for the other toothbrush. New Total: $3.49.

Walgreen’s coupon (given last) SHOULD take off $3 EASH. For a profit of $2.51.

I also had the Nivea Body wash to absorb the overage, but no luck!

We tried everything–the register went nuts. We ended up trying to void out the order, but that wouldn’t work either. We had to ring up at another register because that one was so messed up!

My cashier was so great–she told me that she was going to think about how to make it work for the rest of the day! She is awesome, she never treats me like a criminal, and looks at coupons as a challenge—she is REALLY good at making them work!

I’m gonna think about it too, and go back to visit her on Wednesday….maybe we can get it to work then.

Farrah, you may have needed to have filler item. For some reason when I did this deal the Walgreens coupon (given over last) beeped. So I quickly grabbed a filler and then it took the coupon no problem, no beeps.
    Hope this helps
