Thank you for stopping by my blog, My Frugal Adventures!

I am Charlene, a proud mama of two busy little girls, one very spoiled dog and wife to a major sports nut.  I started My Frugal Adventures in February of 2009 to show that you can live on a budget and still enjoy all the wonderful things life has to offer!

You can usually find me enjoying the beautiful California sunshine, coming up with new activities and crafts to do with my kiddos, embarking on my latest home improvement project or wandering the aisles of Target looking for the hottest deals!  I try to balance healthy eating and an active lifestyle with a deep passion for all things chocolate.

My Frugal Adventures is a fun and upbeat community that highlights coupons and deals on all the products a busy family needs.  If you are trying to stretch those hard earned dollars, you came to the right place!  You can find the best deals week after week at stores like CVS, Costco, Target, Safeway and more… You will also find coupon codes, sales and promotions for children’s products, household basics and unique and interesting splurge items just for Mom.

A few things that set me apart – I believe you can still eat well on a budget.  Saving money doesn’t mean compromising the health of your family!  I buy as many fresh, local and organic products as possible and try to provide the best quality foods I can for my children.  You will find the occasional recipe on My Frugal Adventures and lots of articles on eating well on a budget.

Just like you, I have a lot of balls in the air so while I love a good bargain, I am always striving to find balance in my life.  In addition to coupons and deals, you will also find tips for DIY projects, children’s activities, home improvement projects and the occasional craft projects (providing I haven’t glued my fingers together.)  Oh and a few little organizational ideas here and there to try and keep it all together.

I am a Zumba fanatic, a night owl (that desperately wishes to be a morning person) and I always have time to stop for a good cup of coffee or a Margarita.

My Frugal Adventures has been featured in Family Circle, Woman’s World, The Huffington Post, MSN as well as live segments on Good Day Sacramento and Fox News.

I have a BA in International Relations from California State University, Sacramento and originally had dreams of joining the FBI.  I stumbled into a career in the wine industry after college and fell in love with fresh, simple foods and incredible wine.  (I can swirl and spit with the best of them!)  I have an MBA from City University and started this blog after having our first child, relocating from Seattle to California and transitioning from two incomes to one…. all while digging ourselves out of debt Dave Ramsey style!  If I can do it- so can you!

I hope you consider kicking up your feet and hanging out with me!  And please don’t be shy about sending emails or leaving your comments- it isn’t nearly as fun talking to myself all day!

Merrie August 31, 2012 at 9:15 AM

Charlene,

Love your website, I use it for all my deals, except Foods Co. Have you ever thought about checking out there deals?

Charlene August 31, 2012 at 9:30 AM

Merrie,

Yours will be the third request for Foods Co in three years :). So no I really haven’t had much interest and haven’t considered it as a result. I think the Kroger deals I post match a little to Foods Co. They do have nice sales it just isn’t a very popular store.

Belinda September 13, 2012 at 12:52 AM

Hi there, I just missed Target beauty bag filled with stuff. Is there anyway you can remind me once again when there is another offer coming up. Please. Thank you. I really like to have one since people are talking about it. Thanks again

Kathrin Krajnak September 16, 2012 at 11:01 PM

Charlene, I appreciate all your effords to help us save a dollar.
I have been reading about making my own laundry detergent or soap. I found a receipe on the internet, but I am hesitating a little bit. I don’t know anybody who has ever done that. Can you give me some advice or even try it out?

Charlene September 17, 2012 at 7:44 AM

Kathrin,

I have actually heard great things about homemade laundry soap. I looked into it at one point but I have never found the Arm and Hammer Washing Soap that most people use.

Here is a recipe from pinterest:

http://beingcreativetokeepmysanity.blogspot.ca/2010/11/homemade-laundry-soap.html?showComment=1338312069266#c1781546254793374794

She has a lot of comments from people that tried the recipe.

luba October 11, 2012 at 10:02 AM

Hi Charlene,

I just came across your website looking for matchup deals for luckys/savemart. Do you only post the best deals, or do you post everything on sale, is there a way to determine how good the deal is?

Thanks
Luba

Charlene October 11, 2012 at 10:27 AM

Luba,

I don’t post all the deals just the ones I think are the best ;).

luba October 11, 2012 at 10:53 AM

Thank you Charlene, have a great day

carol November 21, 2012 at 5:39 PM

Hi Charlene, I love your website as it is so full of info! i tried getting the address labels from walmart but it did not show free shipping after I applied the discount code. I dare not enter my credit card details as I think the site will charge me for shipping. Any advice?

Charlene November 21, 2012 at 5:46 PM

Carol- Go ahead and do it and then after you get through that step the final page will reflect the discount. They won’t charge you until you click a button that says place order or confirm order or something to that effect.

adriana November 28, 2012 at 8:57 PM

Kim December 1, 2012 at 1:23 PM

Elf is not working for me or the Crabtree and Evelyn deals, very frustrating, you should check your deals before you post them!

Charlene December 1, 2012 at 4:04 PM

Kim,

Those were posted yesterday. With very hot deals- like the ones you mentioned at over 75% off the retail price- you do want to shop the same day the offer is posted. If you wait a day or two to shop- like you have done- the offers do expire. That doesn’t have anything to do with me. It has to do with you being more timely. I did check the offers and they both worked fine when I posted. If you actually go back and read the posts I did explain very clearly the offers were available 11/30. Today is 12/1. Your unpleasant remarks are totally unwarranted.

CHERYL December 1, 2012 at 5:26 PM

these deals are available to millions and go very fast ecspecially this time of year. i was like wow reading kims comment hopefully she was just frustrated at something else in her life and took it out on you and not really mad about getting a deal because there is so many more important things in life to worry about

Beth December 3, 2012 at 9:02 AM

Living Social has a deal today for a $20 eGift card to CVS for $10. Should make some nice holiday shopping! https://www.livingsocial.com/deals/525836?ref=conf-jp&rpi=94958070

al nonymous December 29, 2012 at 1:09 PM

Just wanted to say that the women who run these type of shopping blogs are AWESOME. i cant believe all the deals you find and the coupons that you are aware of.

Josh December 30, 2012 at 9:33 PM

Hi, I recently started my journey into couponing however I have ran into a few issues. Has anyone else had problems using coupons.com? It wont let me actually clip any items, except whatever the offer of the week is. Even when I try and click on the see more coupons link its as if its unclickable. When I do try and print the offer of the week coupon it says my printer settings are wrong even though they arent (I tripled check). This is sooo frustrating, has anyone else had these kinds of issues?

Carol May 5, 2013 at 10:03 AM

Hi Charlene, I love what you are doing! I tell people all the time what a great site you have.
I do have trouble finding things after the post gets a little old. For example: What is the easiest way to find Retail and Restaurant Coupons a few days after the post? And the Link to the Red Plum coupons?
Thanks for all of your wonderful information! Carol

Charlene May 5, 2013 at 12:32 PM

Hi Carol, Thanks so much! The Red Plum link is at the bottom of the page in the center. The other stuff- I put the retail and restaurant under the “coupons” category. If you look in the top right corner you will see a search box. Directly above that is a tab that says “categories”- you click that and select the categories from the drop down box. In this case it is Coupons. When I do that the third thing down is the retail coupons.

Let me know if that is confusing to you-

Katy May 10, 2013 at 9:03 PM

Hey! Sometimes you post about personalized banners for parties. What website is it?

Charlene May 10, 2013 at 10:04 PM

Katy- Shindigz is the company.

Danielle June 9, 2013 at 7:04 AM

Hi Charlene! I’m excited about the new Grocery Outlet giveaway, but I can’t leave a comment to enter. It seems that the comments section is closed… Is there another way to enter? Thanks!

Charlene June 9, 2013 at 9:05 AM

Ack! Thanks for the note Danielle. I was wondering why no one had entered that :). It should be fixed now but you probably need to refresh your screen.

Jaie October 8, 2013 at 9:07 AM

Hi Charlene goodmorning!!! I really appreciate ur website and very helpful as I live here in CA… Hope u keep on doing this as it helps so many family like us… As a quick question I noticed in iheartcvs website there’s going to be a good sale on SPARKLE paper towels and Angel soft tissue… It’s going to be 3/$15 and I noticed as I searched for coupons on angel soft there’s $2.00 on it… Is it going to be useful on that date or it’s still early to print the c I know sometimes the coupon is only for a week… I hope u could help me on this… Thank u so much… May God bless ur family….

Avid follower….
Jaie (eagle rock, CA)

Charlene October 8, 2013 at 9:15 AM

Hi Jaie!

You mean the week of the 20th at CVS? Looks like 3/$15 and get a $5 ECB on 3. The ad print is hard to read but I believe that says Angel Soft 12pk. The $2 off coupon says 36ct+ so I am thinking it won’t work. The image in the ad certainly looks bigger then a 12pk to me so it wouldn’t hurt to print it. I always go back and forth on things like that though because I think that one prints with a Walmart logo and technically CVS won’t take coupons with other retailers logos on them. Silly.

Susi October 10, 2013 at 1:55 PM

Hi Charlene -
I’m really enjoying your blog and have been a subscriber for a long time now. For some reason, I haven’t received your posts for the past few days. I was wondering if there’s something on your end (or maybe mine!). I miss my daily emails from you so I hope we can figure this out.

Thanks for all you do!!

Charlene October 10, 2013 at 5:45 PM

Hi Susi, It was just brought to my attention this afternoon. I am trying to figure it out :). Hopefully I can get it fixed soon.

Christina October 16, 2013 at 1:39 PM

I know it’s not Black Friday yet but I’ve been finding some amazing deals on Amazong this week. Right now they have 3 different remote control helicopters for $20 (normally $60-$130)

Charlene October 16, 2013 at 1:42 PM

Christina you are stressing me out ;). Kidding— actually I am behind. I have to get some Black Friday ads ready to post this weekend. They are already releasing them! So it isn’t too early at all- thanks for the tip.

PS: I just checked your link and it was to a gift ideas page for a little boy so I removed it :). If you have the link for the airplanes please share and I will post :)

Barbara Serna November 29, 2013 at 8:05 AM

The Doc Mc Stuffins Leappad bundle is only $64 on amazon. That is a really great deal includes leappad, covers, power charger (a huge deal) and a $20 app card.

Ruby December 1, 2013 at 3:41 PM

Charlene,

I just wanted to let you know that ToysRUs and Walmart both have their Barbie 3-Story Dreamhouse priced at $127.99. I’ve been waiting for the price to drop and I just happened to check online. It’s a great price cut to share with others who may be eyeing one for their girls.

Charlene December 1, 2013 at 4:43 PM

Ruby, I did see that but if you can hold off there might be a better price coming. I have not posted because of that reason :)

Bridget December 3, 2013 at 9:34 AM

Hi Charlene,
I misses the cardstore Christmas card deal yesterday because I didn’t have my digital photos back from my photographer yet. What is your advice on what deal I should use now? I’m overwhelmed by all the options out there!! Should I wait or try to find something now?
Thanks!
Bridget

Shelly Gregory March 8, 2014 at 10:59 AM

I liked to order. How can I?

Marietta Schrock April 10, 2014 at 2:09 PM

I’ve been getting your emails daily and have enjoyed them immensely! However, as of a few days ago I quit getting emails. Was just wanting to inform you, not sure if it’s just me or if other people aren’t getting them either. I’d love to get back on your list! Thanks

Charlene April 10, 2014 at 2:10 PM

Marietta, yes I am aware of the problem and trying to fix it :(. So sorry for the inconvenience!
