sprinklers Palm Springs day 3 007

Thank you for stopping by my blog, My Frugal Adventures!

I am Charlene, a proud mama of two busy little girls, one very spoiled dog and wife to a major sports nut.  I started My Frugal Adventures in February of 2009 to show that you can live on a budget and still enjoy all the wonderful things life has to offer!

You can usually find me enjoying the beautiful California sunshine, coming up with new activities and crafts to do with my kiddos, embarking on my latest home improvement project or wandering the aisles of Target looking for the hottest deals!  I try to balance healthy eating and an active lifestyle with a deep passion for all things chocolate (and an occasional Diet Coke… shhh!)

My Frugal Adventures is a fun and upbeat community that highlights coupons and deals on all the products a busy family needs.  If you are trying to stretch those hard earned dollars, you came to the right place!  You can find the best deals week after week at stores like CVS, Costco, Target, Safeway and more… You will also find coupon codes, sales and promotions for children’s products, household basics and unique and interesting splurge items just for Mom.

A few things that set me apart – I believe you can still eat well on a budget.  Saving money doesn’t mean compromising the health of your family!  I buy as many fresh, local and organic products as possible and try to provide the best quality foods I can for my children.  You will find recipes here- mostly I like to focus on fresh, healthy real food that can be made quickly.  I do have a serious sweet tooth so you will also find lots of treats- especially fun and whimsical things for the children.

Fresh Cilantro Lime Salsa

Some of my favorite recipes include:

Easy Blender Salsa Recipe

The Best Ever Chocolate Buttercream Frosting Recipe

Homemade Almond Butter Recipe

Copycat Alice Springs Chicken Recipe

Homemade Crock Pot Apple Butter Recipe

Just like you, I have a lot of balls in the air so while I love a good bargain, I am always striving to find balance in my life.  In addition to coupons and deals, you will also find tips for DIY projects, children’s activities, home improvement projects and the occasional craft projects (providing I haven’t glued my fingers together.)  Oh and a few little organizational ideas here and there to try and keep it all together.

Homemade Mary Kay Satin hands- perfect for dry skin, after gardening or crafting. Just two ingredients and makes a fantastic gift!

Here are a few of my favorite projects:

Homemade Satin Hands Scrub

Homemade Body Butter Recipe

DIY Children’s Tent

Homemade 3 Ingredient Mosquito Repellent

 Sharpie Dyed Coasters

I am a Zumba fanatic, a night owl (that desperately wishes to be a morning person) and I always have time to stop for a good cup of coffee or a Margarita.

My Frugal Adventures has been featured in Family Circle, Woman’s World, The Huffington Post, MSN as well as live segments on Good Day Sacramento and Fox News.

I have a BA in International Relations from California State University, Sacramento and originally had dreams of joining the FBI.  I stumbled into a career in the wine industry after college and fell in love with fresh, simple foods and incredible wine.  (I can swirl and spit with the best of them!)  I have an MBA from City University and started this blog after having our first child, relocating from Seattle to California and transitioning from two incomes to one…. all while digging ourselves out of debt Dave Ramsey style!  If I can do it- so can you!

What you won’t find on My Frugal Adventures are overly styled, impossible to duplicate and ridiculously expensive perfection.  Doesn’t that make you tired after awhile?  Boo!  Not many of us hire teams to professionally style and photograph children’s birthday parties.  I don’t spend $300 every few months to update my mantle with seasonal decor.   The recipes featured are simple and (hopefully) delicious – nothing that requires hours in the kitchen.  We get messy, we make lots of mistakes and despite my best efforts the house is never immaculate and perfectly organized.  Everything you find will be projects for real people on a real budget.  While I do like to save money, I also like good quality things so hopefully with My Frugal Adventures you find that Being Frugal Doesn’t Mean Being Cheap.

I hope you consider kicking up your feet and hanging out with me!  And please don’t be shy about sending emails or leaving your comments- it isn’t nearly as fun talking to myself all day!

Linda- The email newsletter service just stopped working. I did everything I could to fix it but they have no support service at all so you kind of have to try things and cross your fingers ;). Nothing worked so I actually just paid a tech person to switch the newsletter over to another service. I am hoping she is done with it very soon!

Thank you so much for all the information. I love coupons, thrift store shopping and saving money in general. I have really enjoyed all of the information you have. Awesome!

Kerry April 23, 2014 at 3:30 PM

I haven’t received a My Frugal Adventures since April 4. Would you check for me? I even tried to re subscribe, thinking I had “timed out” or something.

I miss you.

Charlene April 23, 2014 at 8:53 PM

Hi Kerry! You are so sweet! Yes Feedburner has been my newsletter service for 5 years now and it just stopped. There is no customer service or contact us pages or anything so I have been troubleshooting like crazy. Now I give up on them :). I got all set up with a new service and surprise! It is $2000 per year assuming I don’t get any new subscribers. So I can’t justify that. I am in the process of looking at a new service and trying to get it all set up. We should be back in business soon hopefully. I just never seem to have enough hours in the day. :P

Thanks for writing back. I understand completely. Here in Georgia, we’re in the process of getting ready for 2 camp outs, a play and the Blue and Gold Banquet for our Cub Scouts. Moms are busy, and the food needs to be purchased and cooked no matter how busy we get. Hang in there.

I look forward to picking back up soon. I sure enjoy all the treasures you dig up for us! Is sponsorship out? Would your readers be willing to chip in a dollar?

Enjoy spring, keep breathing ! : )

I think something is wrong with your site. When I go to the home page it is blank. If I Google it and pick lets say target them it opens fine. I can then open any store page or search but if I click on home it is again blank. I have tried it at home and at work I have also tried firefox, IE and Chrome so I do not think it is on my end but who knows. Just wnated to let you know.

michelle April 28, 2014 at 12:54 PM

I can now open the page with Chrome but still no luck on IE.

Charlene April 28, 2014 at 1:32 PM

Hi Michelle,

That is so odd! I emailed my hosting company and hopefully they can sort it out :)

Thanks for letting me know!

Last week, I started receiving two e-mails from you, rather than one. They have different formats but include all the same information. Thought you’d want to know.

Pat Smith May 28, 2014 at 9:47 PM

Your blog looks right up my alley, will look forward to going on and joining others who interact with you.Thank you for taking your precious time to share all this! God Bless. Pat Smith in Ohio

Terri Merriam June 13, 2014 at 9:19 AM

I purchased a $10 Starbuck certificate (6/12/14) and haven’t got an e-mail with the information. I thought I did something wrong and tried to do it again and it said that I couldn’t.

Thanks, Terri Merriam

Charlene June 13, 2014 at 9:26 AM

Terri,

You bought from Groupon? If you can’t buy another one that is because there is a limit of 1 so you already bought one. Just log into your Groupon account and click on my vouchers and it should be sitting there- assuming you didn’t buy it 5 minutes ago ;). Click view voucher and print and you can use it.

Terri Merriam June 13, 2014 at 9:32 AM

It doesn’t even give me that option so something must not have worked right. Frustrated – not your fault. Thanks!

Charlene June 13, 2014 at 11:47 AM

Terri you can’t log into Groupon? Go to groupon.com and look in the corner if the screen. If you are on a mobile device try from a laptop later.

Charlene- just wanted to take a minute to say thanks for posting all the great savings & tips. As a working mom of 4 ages 2-7, your postings have allowed me to save valuable time & money that I can re-direct toward my family. Cheers to you & the last 5yrs or your dedication & the next 50! ;)

Charlene June 18, 2014 at 4:09 PM

Hey Mona how nice of you. Thank you!

Rachel July 2, 2014 at 4:51 AM

I tried to unsubscribe to one of the email newsletters because I randomly started getting two a day. Now I’m not getting any-even though I re-subscribed using the blue box on the upper right of your site. Can you help?

gloriana July 20, 2014 at 5:47 AM

How do I sign up for your e-mails?

Stephanie July 27, 2014 at 9:14 AM

Hi Charlene,
Wondering if you have already posted all of the back to school & school supply sales? I always use your blog to keep us on track before school even starts :)
Thanks much,
Stephanie

Barbara July 28, 2014 at 2:40 PM

Bouncy ball recipe didn’t work. We really ended with silly putty. Any suggestions? Followed your instructions.

Charlene July 28, 2014 at 3:23 PM

Barbara- did you have a chance to read the post? That might help :) Your result was probably about the same as our result and I did say pretty clearly you won’t get perfect bouncy balls. If you’d like a perfect bouncy ball you can try the kits I mentioned in the second part of the post. Good luck!

Nikki October 10, 2014 at 2:05 PM

FYI. Your instagram links don’t work

Charlene October 10, 2014 at 2:14 PM

Hi Nikki- I tested a bunch and they all work for me. Can you tell me which one is broken for you?

Thank you!

Tammy October 28, 2014 at 1:20 PM

Can you tell me why there have not been any posts for Raleys for October?

Tammy Steed November 6, 2014 at 8:37 AM

Why are we not seeing new deals at Raleys?

Tammy November 18, 2014 at 10:51 AM

Why have you not posted any new Raleys deals?
