Two Ingredient Chocolate Peanut Butter Magic Shell Recipe (for Ice Cream)

Chocolate Peanut Butter Magic Shell Recipe

I posted the super yummy DIY Chocolate Magic Shell recipe a few weeks ago.  That recipe is so simple and so delicious but it does call for Coconut Oil.  A few of you wanted another option without the coconut oil so here it is!!

I have to tell you this is so CRAZY good.  You won’t believe how easy it is and it really tastes like a melted Reese’s Candy right on top of  ice cream.

This only requires 2 ingredients and while I wouldn’t consider this healthy, it is much better in my opinion then other ice cream toppings you buy that are filled with preservatives and who knows what.  Plus this tastes HEAVENLY.

If you are a peanut butter and chocolate fan please try this recipe.  It is heaven on a spoon.  This is one of those things that would be a great hostess gift too- and ready in seconds!

Just mix the magic shell in a jar (you can even mix it in the same jar you use for the gift)- add a gift tag and a little ribbon or twine.  Very cute and even better if you bring along a nice carton of gelato or real ice cream so they can enjoy right away.

(This would be a great idea to include in a meal basket for a sick friend or new mom- see more ideas for those gifts here.)

Two Ingredient Chocolate Peanut Butter Magic Shell (for Ice Cream)

Recipe type: Dessert
Prep time:  1 min

Total time:  3 mins
Serves: 4

Fast and easy chocolate peanut butter magic shell for ice cream.
Ingredients
  • ½ cup chocolate chips (either semi-sweet or milk chocolate). I prefer Ghiradelli chips.
  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter
Instructions
  1. Add your chocolate chips to a bowl heat for 25 seconds. Remove and stir.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons peanut butter and place back in microwave for another 20 seconds.
  3. The chips should be melted by now and you have a rich sauce similar to hot fudge. If not, just pop the mixture back in the microwave for 10 second intervals until melted.
  4. Make sure to stir well between intervals.
  5. Pour on ice cream and after about 60 seconds this will set to a hard shell!

You can of course adapt this to your tastes.  I only use Ghirardelli Chocolate Chips myself- delish!  I like milk chocolate over semi-sweet but either way will work fine.  Also you can use creamy or chunky peanut butter.  I have used creamy and added a few extra chopped and roasted almonds to the top of my ice cream.

To start out with the magic shell will be a gooey melty chocolate consistency.  Once you pour it over ice cream, it will harden right up just like Magic Shell you might remember from childhood.

I store it in the fridge in a mason jar and it will last a very long time (if you can keep your spoon out of the jar that is!)

If you try this recipe out please come back and share what you thought!

Darn you Charlene, I think you are trying to make me gain weight. I tried the regular recipe and it is so good. Now I will have to try this one. I better go get another carton on ice cream tonight 🙂

Thanks, Charlene! Is the peanut butter you use one of the natural ones with no sugar? If so, does it separate when cooled? Just curious. Think I am gonna have to try this one 🙂

    Lisa,

No it doesn’t seperate at all. It gets a little hard so if you don’t use it all at once you need to micro again for a few seconds. The ingredients for the one I like are here:

It doesn’t seperate at the top- I do know what you are talking about.

Oh let me know how you like it Nicole! I wasn’t happy with the photos so I was forced to get another carton of ice cream too. For future reshoots of course :D.

Hopefully I will get a Farro recipe up this week which is clean eating, crazy easy and way yummy. I have been a bit of a piggy myself lately so time to get it together ;).

(Said as I am up making rainbow cupcakes for my little girl’s class party)

Can’t wait to try this with my kids. They’ve never seen or tried Magic Shell topping but I remember loving it as a child. So, this doesn’t harden in the refrigerator? Or do you have to re-microwave it before serving?

    Melissa,

It will be like a fudge sauce when you make it and then once it hits the ice cold ice cream it hardens. You can keep it room temp and it stays saucey or put it in the fridge and it will need to be microwaved before the next use. Come back and tell me what you think!

We made this tonight to top some homemade vanilla ice cream, it was so easy and so good! I only wish it were a little thinner, any suggestions on what I could add to thin it out just a bit?

Andrea- you can use some coconut oil to thin it out. It is pretty thick. Literally like a melted Reese’s 🙂
