Walgreens: Cottonelle TP $2 Starting 5/1

Well people are usually pretty excited about any TP deals because they can be hard to find. I wanted to mention this one that is starting next week at Walgreens:

Cottonelle 12pk TP is priced at $5.00 starting next week.

There is also an unadvertised Register Reward:

Buy 2 packs of Cottonelle 12pks and get a $3 RR back
or Buy 3 and get $4 Register Reward

So you can try this:

Buy 2 Cottonelle 12pks at $5.00 each
Use $1/1 Walgreens coupon book coupon (will take off $1 for each pack)
and Use (2) $.50 printable coupons or coupons
Pay $3.50 each and get a $3.00 Register Reward back

So that makes each pack $2.00!

If you need this right away, you can do the same transaction this week except the new Walgreens coupon books are probably not in most stores yet.  So you will pay $3.00 per 12pk after coupon and RR.

(Thanks Wild for Wags)

*Note:  I think this is just an OK deal myself.   These are regular rolls of TP not the big ones or double rolls/mega rolls whatever. I happen to be a plush TP kind of gal.

Also one quick note on how you can decide if a TP deal is good or not– lots of people use “per roll” cost as a unit of measurement.  Since not all rolls are created equally (single ply, double ply, mega etc..) that isn’t really an accurate way to look at it.

If you take the square feet off the package and move the decimal point you can get a good idea of what the price should be.

In the example above, the Cottonelle 12pk is 232.8 square feet* of TP.  So move that decimal point up two spaces and that is a good price to pay- $2.32 per pack.

That means that you should expect to pay $2.32 for this 12pk with a sale and coupon and next week it will be priced at $2.00 which is a good deal.

If the package was 350 square feet, you would expect to pay $3.50 and so on…

Hopefully that makes sense and I find this to be a super easy way to tell if a TP deal is really a good one.

*Note: I looked at images online to determine the square feet.  The print is pretty hard to read so double check the package in store- it might be a better deal than I indicated.

thanks–I never knew that trick before with pricing. I’ll be sure to keep that in mind.

Thanks for the awesome tip! I’ve always wondered about TP…it’s so hard to judge prices.

Can I use the $3 RR to buy another two packs of the tp? I’ve printed 6 coupons to use, so I’d like to roll them over to the subsequent tp purchases.

You are just amazing. How smart! Thank you for the tip 🙂

Thanks for the tip. I’ve heard that there was an easy way to figure it out, but never actually knew it. So much easier to determine the best deal now.

Oh listen. I totally wasn’t. I just know how to tell TP because TP deals often aren’t as great as they seem 😛

Jessica. If you use the RR to buy more TP I won’t give you another RR. You need to space them out.

Does this work with Catalina’s I went to their coupon site and it states that if you purchase 3 or more you will save $4.00 off next order?

    04/27/2011 at 3:20 PM

Oh, I see the RR and Catalinas are the same thing.

Interesting… I just bought a 12 pack of double rolls at Kroger today. After coupon and catalina, it ended up being $3.49 (or $.29/roll) which is about as cheap per roll as I’ve paid. But when I look at the square footage, it’s 246 sq. ft. So sometime I should be able to get this for $2.46’ish?! Hmmm… I’ll have to start paying more attention to this and see if I ever find a deal that compares like that. I always went by the price per double roll.

Melissa that is a decent deal for sure. I have seen that pack exactly as low as $3.98/2 but those types of deals are few and far between.

Can this pricing tip be used with paper towel as well?

Oh good. I was thinking I was missing something and had somehow failed to cash in on all the really good TP deals. Good to know they don’t come around all that often. I think the cheapest I’ve ever paid for a double roll is $.25. The catalina deal at Kroger right now is a good deal. Will definitely be buying more on my next trip.

Well, I would like to know how the “extreme couponers” have their wall of tp that they claim they got for free…I’m a Charmin girl myself and have been using my RR from the Stayfree and Always deals this week to get the Charmin Basic that is on sale. Charmin Basic is not as nice as regular Charmin but I cannot use Scott or Marcel Small Steps stuff- too rough! According to Charlene’s math my tp should cost 2.19 not the 2.99 I’ve been paying …..Oh well…

  17. Charlene says

    04/28/2011 at 5:29 PM

Oh Renee it was a deal a long time ago I think. I can;t remember the specifics- I want to say Angel Soft had $.50 off coupons that doubled and the 4pks were .99 at Albertsons and other stores.
Marcal had free coupons once too. I have no idea how they do it either. I don’t think I have ever gotten free TP in years of couponing. But I don’t have doubles, I could never find that cruddy Marcal, and I don’t like cheap TP anyway 🙂

There was that free TP at Rite Aid not too long ago but who wants that stuff.

Thank you for the tip, Charlene! I’ve tried to compare double roll to double roll, but this is MUCH quicker and more simple! Love it!!! 😀 There’s a reason why YOU’RE running this site and I’m just trying to keep up. LOL!

Oh, and we don’t have double or triple coupons in Louisiana. That was one of the first things I looked into several years ago when I started couponing, so some of the best deals will be gotten elsewhere. I seem to remember Ralphs in San Diego (where I grew up) running double coupon Thursdays…I would love to be able to take advantage of those grocery deals now…

So is this better than the Scott Naturals deal? (http://www.passionforsavings.com/2011/04/hot-scott-naturals-coupon-deal-giveaway/)

Or are they both good and I should stock up now since I read somewhere that good TP deals don’t come around often?

I’m new to this, and TP is confusing!

  20. Charlene says

    04/30/2011 at 9:18 AM

mja, I don’t understand the question. That is the same deal? Heather posted it and I credited her at the bottom of my post. Did you find a difference there somewhere because I don’t see any difference?

  21. Mary says

    04/30/2011 at 12:31 PM

I think mja is wondering if the Scott’s Naturals deal is better than the Cottonelle deal or are both great? I was wondering the same.

  22. Charlene says

    04/30/2011 at 1:06 PM

Oh thanks Mary. I didn’t even notice this was on my Cottonelle post until you pointed it out. I was thinking it was on the Scott post I did this morning and they are the same deal…
The Scott is a better deal but considering most people will only have 2 coupons that makes a total of 8 rolls of tp 🙂 So the Cottonelle is not a bad deal just remember it is the very thin single ply kind of TP 🙁 I am going to check Amazon too later and try to find some good deals on something a little better.

Hmm still trying to decide if I should do this deal or not…seems like a good deal but those small rolls don’t last at my house! I have a daycare and the kids go through that stuff..they think they need 4ft of tp every time they go! lol I did take advantage of the Scott Deal though! Scott is my favorite, the rolls last much much longer. I just prefer the original kind over the other versions of scott tissue:)

Does anyone know if the rr are still running? I didn’t know if it was a weekly thing or monthly. thanks.
