Here are a few ideas for new couponers to get started with Walgreens deals. The Register Reward program at Walgreens can be a little tricky so be sure to read HERE and HERE before you head out!
This week it is a very easy week to learn to “roll” Register Rewards. What that means is that you use a Register Reward you get from one transaction to pay for the next and so on. By doing that you can get more items with less money out of pocket.
To do this you need to be sure you do two transactions. You can either do one and go back to the end of the line to do another, or you can just ask to cashier to ring you up separately. You can also ask the person at the photo counter or beauty counter to ring you up as they are often less busy than the regular cashier!
Transaction #1:
Buy 1 Excedrin Menstrual Complete at $2.50
Use $2/1 Excedrin coupon HERE
Final Price: $.50
You will pay .50 total + tax and you should get a $2 catalina coupon (called a Register Reward) back. So you just made a $1.50 profit to buy this product.
You can use that $2 Register on almost anything priced at $2 or more in the store. The Register Reward will print out of the little machine right next to the Register and should start printing right after you pay so be sure you wait for it to print.
Here is my suggestion to roll the reward:
Buy 2 Stouffer’s Macaroni and Cheese Entrees $1.50 each
Use the $2 Register Reward you got from the prior transaction
You will pay $1 and get a $1 Register Reward back!
So once you are finished with will have an Exedrin and 2 Stouffers. You will have paid $1.50 + tax total and you will have a $1 Register Reward left for next time!
Now the idea is not to buy a bunch of items you don’t need or don’t want. This week the Excedrin offers a great opportunity to make a small profit and get started with Register Rewards. If that is not a product you need, you might consider adding it to a donation basket.

I’ve been following you for a while now, (it all started with my Mom back east) and have been saving tons, but last night the first Walgreen’s that I went to said I could only use 1 register reward per transaction. They said that the manager had changed their policy. Can they do that? Thanks for the great site!

Yes they can. People get frustrated with me but my answer is usually if a store treats you badly or makes things difficult because you have coupons than don’t shop there. I guess 1 RR isn’t too bad- you can still get lots of great deals.

Awesome on the beginner series! Thanks for giving the idea of donating items to different places and in different ways!
