Birthday Funfetti Slime

We still haven’t gotten tired of making variations on slime around these parts.  My 3rd grader in particular just loves making slime and we are always looking for creative twists on the standard recipe.

I came up with the idea of a birthday cake slime- plain white slime with tons of sprinkles- like Funfetti.  I knew my little girl would absolutely love this as it would be sprinkley and rainbow colored.  It doesn’t get much better than that.

To make this slime is very simple.  I just started with a basic white glue, slime recipe and added these fun rainbow foam beads. Also, see the Albertsons Weekly Ad.

You could literally use sprinkles but I have a feeling real sprinkles would bleed and create a mess.  So these little foam beads were pretty inexpensive and added a fun texture to the slime and served as our sprinkles.

I purchased purchased these foam beads and there are a ton of them to make numerous batches of slime.

Here is the simple recipe I used with just contact solution, glue and baking soda.  There are lots of other recipes though with basic household items that I will link below.

• 4oz Elmer’s Glue
• 1 tablespoon contact solution or saline solution with boric acid listed on ingredients
• 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
• foam beads

Or for a larger batch:

• 2 cups white glue
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 4 pumps foaming hand soap (optional)
• about 4 tablespoons of contact solution.  Add in 1/2 tablespoon increments and stir well in between until it reaches the consistency you like.
• 1/4 cup (or more) of foam beads

Add everything to a bowl and mix very well.  At first the mixture will be sticky but if you continue kneading or mixing you should get past the sticky phase and the slime will come together.  You may need to add slightly more glue if it feels too tough or slightly more contact solution if it feels too sticky.

You can substitute liquid starch for the contact solution or laundry soap (like Tide).

And I have a video below in case you prefer a visual.  Please remember slime is really science and you may need to add a dash more of this or a dash more of that to get it just right. The key is to keep kneading away at the slime because if you add too much contact solution it will get tough and rubbery.
