The smart plug is awesome to have the Echo turn things on and off with an app. This would be super handy to turn on and off holiday lights, to turn on an electric blanket or portable heater (or fan in summer), when you are away from home turn on lights randomly or music or TV and so on.
I don’t have an Echo, I have a similar device and we use it all the time. My kids set timers for running soccer drills or reading minutes for school, we play music, I just asked it why my poinsettia was dying (it told me to water thoroughly and be prepared for leaves to be shed) and the children figured out they can call Santa and get a little message from him. 😉
