I was thrilled to partner recently with Starbucks® to try their new Starbucks® hot chocolate kcups. These come in two flavor varieties- classic and salted caramel and are made with real cocoa. Now I absolutely love hot chocolate. I actually have four recipes for variations on hot chocolate on my blog. It is so cozy and comforting to sit down with a cup of hot chocolate and just relax.
While I love a good homemade hot chocolate recipe, these kcups are super appealing! Sometimes I am just so exhausted at the end of the day, finishing homework, after school activities, making dinner, cleaning the kitchen, reading books, starting laundry… I just don’t have the energy to make my own hot chocolate. Or sometimes I want a quick after school treat for the kids and these kcups are just so incredibly fast and convenient. Pop them in your Keurig and you have creamy hot chocolate in seconds.
So I thought I would share with you a little about the Starbucks® hot chocolate kcups and share a really fun frozen whipped cream that you can make in minutes and have ready and waiting in the freezer.
You can do any shape and any color- make these ahead of time in about 5 minutes and then pop them in a container and have them on hand for your hot chocolate moment.
You can whip up homemade whipped cream in minutes (I use the recipe here) – add any colors or extra flavors you might like. Peppermint extract would be fantastic! Next spoon the whipped cream into a baking sheet or casserole dish- note you want to choose something that will fit in your freezer.
About 1 inch high is perfect and use a spatula to smooth the whipped cream into an even layer. Cover with plastic wrap and freeze for about 4 hours or overnight.
Remove from the freezer and fill a small bowl with hot water. Dip a cookie cutter (in a shape that will fit inside your mug) into the hot water and then press onto the frozen cream to cut your shape out. The hot water will help to push the cutter through the frozen cream. Pop out the shape onto a piece of wax paper and place in a freezer safe container until ready to use!
So simple and really fun and cute. My children absolutely love the extra little details like this for their snacks. I made a plain version with snowflakes and added a little red food coloring for pink hearts.
And here is what they look like:
And if you’d like to try the Starbucks® hot cocoa k-cups you can find them in most grocery outlets or you can enter to win a really cute little Cozy Collection kit. I received one of these and it is definitely a fun little treat.
