I recently had the chance to work on a car care themed gift basket for the holidays. I jumped at the chance because I was thinking a car themed gift basket is absolutely perfect for my very hard to shop for husband! I decided that instead of doing the traditional car cleaning products and such I would create a commuter themed basket.
While my husband only commutes about 6 minutes to his office in the morning, he recently moved into a new sales role that requires a lot of time driving around meeting with customers. So the car has essentially become his office. When we used to live in Seattle we each had an hour to 90 minute commute (each way) every day that was just brutal. Back then I would have loved a commuter gift basket filled with items to make my time in the car more pleasant.
So I wanted to put together something simple and I have a few ideas that you might also like for the commuter in your life. I am actually so happy with this gift basket, I might make another for my nephew who is in the process of getting a new car.
First I grabbed a plaid basket that seems a bit more masculine. I filled it with a few of my husbands favorite salty snacks and treats. I also picked up a new water bottle – a coffee mug would be perfect as well- and an audio cord that connects your phone to the car’s speakers. Now he can play music or audiobooks on surround sound in the car. (A backup phone charger would be a great idea too.)
Next I added a gift card – this could be anything your commuter loves- maybe a coffee shop, a favorite fast food place, a subscription to Audible would be fantastic to listen to books in the car or maybe a subscription to Apple Music. My husband drives his own car so I grabbed a gift card for a local car wash so he can keep the car nice and clean.
I also tucked into the basket is a little notepad and pen. He can jot down notes, to do lists and keep track of his mileage all in one spot.
One last and important detail is some car air fresheners to keep things smelling great. I found these Yankee Candle® brand Smart Scent vent clips and Car Jar Ultimate in the auto care section of Walmart. You might also find them in the aircare aisles.
I liked the Yankee Candle® brand Car Jar Ultimate in the Midsummer’s Night fragrance because the black matches perfectly with the interior of the car. There are tons of options for fragrances (you can find them here on the Walmart assortment page) but I know my husband will appreciate the subtly of how it looks and the fragrance is just slightly musky so perfect for a man.
All in all this is a practical gift that I hope he loves! The price to put this together was very reasonable:
Gift Basket and Ribbon $4.00
Assorted Snacks $12
Yankee Candle® brand Car Jar and Vent Clips $4.94 each
Audio Cable $4.99
Water Bottle $24 (I splurged here to get a really high quality one)
Notebook and pens $8- not pictured
Gift Certificate $25
And ta da! A simple and practical gift for the road warrior in your life. What do you think? Any other clever ideas of things to tuck inside?

I love the idea of gifting a commuter gift basket- especially here near Los Angeles, who doesn’t need help surviving their commute? #client

Thoughtful idea! You could also tuck in a mount that either attaches to the vent or dash for the phone. Or a gift card for gas?

Right Michelle! For my nephew- who is financially challenged- I was thinking a gas card would be great 🙂 I like practical gifts that you know people will for sure use.

Love this basket! Where is it from?
Charlene says
Hi Cara– the basket was actually from the Dollar Spot at Target. It was $3 🙂 I found the black ribbon there too.
