I have posted about this before but I just wanted to remind you once again about the Target toy clearance that usually happens every January.
They move out all the excess toys from Christmas and they get ready to bring in new items. We typically see sales up to 70% off during this clearance and items can vary greatly from one store to the next.
My guess is that many stores will hit 70% off this week. Typically the toy department gets marked down on Wednesdays- so in theory some of you may already have seen 70% off toys.
I checked back to last year and last year the toys were marked down in most placed on Thursday, January 17th. The year prior it was on Thursday, January 17th.
So I can only make a prediction but most likely tomorrow, Thursday January 15th is going to be a day for some markdowns.
You can always call ahead to your store to ask first thing in the morning- I prefer to actually ask for someone in the toy department.
A few things to remember:
- If your store does hit 70% off things will go QUICK.
- Don’t trust the price tags. I just took this photo tonight of the giant 15% off tags at my store and guess what? The toys right above that sign are clearly marked with 50% off red clearance stickers. I always scan things first.
- If you do go early and see employees marking things down and you find your item is still at 50% off, you can approach them and ask if that toy will be reduced in price today. They simply may not have gotten there yet.
I did see some big toys at my store at 50% off today– including doll houses and how awesome is this car?

I went yesterday and picked up a Monster High Doll marked down from 19.99 to 13.98. At checkout, it was 5.98!
I went to target yesterday and the toy clearance was still ringing up at 30% off. Still keeping a lookout for when it drops.
We just happened to swing by the Lincoln store yesterday and pretty much everything had already hit 70% off and was cleared out but my boys somehow spotted the last one of those huge Transformers Stomp and Chomp toys that are orignally $80. It was marked down to $23 plus had a coupon for it stuck to the front for $5 off that hadn’t expired-so I may have been swayed to buy it in exchange for some extra chores. 😉

Hey Paula one trick if you remember the item you scanned, is to search target.com for the DPCI number listed under product info and call today and see if it is the same price. Then you know if they hit 50 today 🙂
The deals are awesome. I bought a doctor toy set at $4.98, 70% off. No reason to say no to such good bargain!
