This is such an easy little DIY project for summer. I have been wanting to make a 2L sprinkler for a few years now and just finally got around to it.
It literally took minutes to make and really the cost is whatever you pay for your 2L soda. We were staying at my Father in Law’s house for a few days and I didn’t want to bring a bunch of toys and things with us- so I knew this would be perfect to make on our trip. Easy, cheap, fun and disposable 🙂
So there are a few ways to do this. The first is to just use electrical tape or duct tape to secure your sprinkler or you can pop over to the home improvement store and get a male connector.
We only planned to use our sprinkler for a short time so we used tape (there is a drought in California so we have to be very careful with how much water is used.)
So to start with you take a clean and empty 2L bottle and you want to poke holes in it. A drill is perfect but we didn’t have one available so my husband actually used a screw and screwdriver. We put 12 holes in ours- 4 per side on 3 sides. You can do 4 sides but if you want to move the sprinkler around it is nice to have a side that won’t squirt water all over you.
Once the holes were in we simply reversed the hose so that it would screw into the 2L. Only one end of the hose will fit in the 2L mouth and screw in securely so you will need to tape off one end of the hose or the other end. Since the tape is not very secure – we figured it would get bumped too easily and decided to tape the other end where the hose attached to the faucet on the house.
Again the tape is not very secure so if you get kinks in your hose or it gets bumped, the hose will fall off. For short term use this was perfect but for longer term use you can just buy a male connector for very cheap and that solves the problem.
And now you are ready for fun!
We used this as a sprinkler for the kids to run through and then we didn’t have any trees to hang it from but we propped up the pool net and the spinkler was dangling down. That was really fun for the kids.
So this is an idea of something really easy to do this summer. I remember running through sprinklers as a kid and it was always so much fun. So this is sort of imparting some of my childhood memories to my girls.
