So I wanted to mention a great resource if you have little ones- this is especially nice for those of you that home school and might be interested in free lesson plans on fire safety.
You can get a bunch of free resources from SparkySchoolhouse.org with videos and music as well as printed materials to help teach children about fire safety.
My 6 year old just had a fire safety drill at school and the school also does lock down drills now as a result of all the terrible tragedies we have seen. It is truly heartbreaking and so different from when I was a kid. I remember getting under my desk in case of an Earthquake ( California girl here– but I still haven’t felt an Earthquake 30 years later) and that was about it.
My little one came home bursting with questions and excitement (she is the designated line leader in case of lock downs) and this resource was really helpful for me to work through all those questions with her.
I was a little worried this would all be very scary for the little ones but you can watch two videos that do a great job:
Little Rosalie by SteveSongs
(The School Tube link is here.)
Whats That Sound by Recess Monkey
(The School Tube link is here.)
Both are songs that basically remind children to stay calm and move quickly to get out of the house if the smoke alarm goes off.
They are presented in a silly way and the songs are actually pretty catchy.
If you’d like the lesson plans and printed materials, you can head over here.
