Looking for quick and easy little Christmas decorating ideas?
Have you tried making custom glass ornaments? These are so simple to make and you can can just use things you probably have on hand already.
I actually got a few small things (wonderful holiday treats from Trader Joe’s) for neighbors and such and wrapped them up in plain craft paper and then tied these homemade ornaments on to make things a little jazzier.
This entire gift was under $5.00 total (including the $3.99 treat wrapped up inside.)
To make your own custom ornaments you just need a box of clear ornaments (these are $5.99 for 6 at my Michael’s store and currently on sale for half off.)
Next just dig around in your craft supplies or holiday decorations- Epsom salts, fake snow, glitter, stickers, branches, bells, mini trees etc.. will all work. I had a few twigs of colored berries I bought at the craft store for $.79 and then I just snipped off a little greenery from some artificial garland we had on hand. Add the items you collect to the inside of your ornament and viola!
So easy! I also did a few that were monogrammed- that is even easier. I cut H out with my Silhouette machine but if you don’t have a machine, you can buy letter stickers that would work perfectly at the craft stores. I am planning to make a few more of these to use as place cards for Christmas.
The only trick to this is the size of the opening of your ornament will restrict what you can use. I had some small bells I wanted to add but they wouldn’t fit inside.
I have used both Epsom salts and little plastic snow I picked up at Michael’s for about $1. Personally I like the shimmery snow flakes- they are harder to see in photos but in person very delicate and pretty. The Epsom salts look more like realistic snow.
So give it a shot and see what you come up with. The pretty clear glass monogrammed ornaments were $6 or so each from Pottery Barn. You can make about 12 of them for the same price as one (plus PB is already sold out on these!)
