I have a quick little tip I wanted to share for those of you with little girls that might want to wear a little glitter or makeup for Halloween.
I am not personally a fan of letting my girls wear makeup- they are only 4 and 6 after all- but they do LOVE, LOVE some sparkle and glitter on occasion.
I did get a little white fairy dust-y glitter for my little Angel and I figured out a nifty little way to get around the whole makeup thing while still letting the girls feel fancy and special.
Head into the scrapbook section of a craft store or Target or Walmart and you should find tons of types of stickers. These are jeweled or pearly or shiny stickers that peel right off and you can adhere those to your little girl’s face instead of a ton of makeup.
I found little swirly pearl shapes for about $2 with a coupon at Michael’s and used those for my little Angel this year.
You can cut the stickers into small pieces or just leave them intact like I did above. It literally is a sticker that comes on or off- easy peasy!
These would go with so many different costumes since there are numerous options for stickers- princesses, fairies, mermaids, butterflies, witches and more…
And I also have a little Super Girl this year and I found some pretty foil stickers in that same section- I want to say these were about $.99.
There were red and blue stars that I thought would work perfectly with her costume- so she got a little bit of blue roll on glitter and then these cute little stars.
So fun and easy so I thought I’d share this idea. My girls were pretty darn excited and I think they look great.
And if you are interested in learning how to make these easy little tutus the girls are wearing– get the scoop here.

Hi Sara,
Thanks! The colors in the photo are messed up since I was in a panic to get a few pictures as the sun was going down and then I had the camera on the wrong setting. Sigh. So Maya looks pink and the grass is grey 😉
The cape is totally no sew. I used a cape the girls have in their dress up bins as a template and laid it on top of a yard of satin. I cut it and then went all the way around with that sticky tape stuff that irons on for a no sew seam. It doesn’t look amazing but I don’t think it looks bad either :). For the Super M I designed that on my Silhouette Machine and then bought a gold heat transfer paper and cut it out on the Silhouette and then ironed it on. I used toilet paper rolls and cut them to make wrist guards and then used the scraps from the t-shirt iron on and hot glued that on. So the wrist guards match the top perfectly.
If you don’t have a Silhouette you can just use iron on transfers:

If you print out an image, you use that paper to iron the design on. You can google for the image that you want- like I may have Googled “Super Girl Logo” and then once you find a clean image just save it to Word and print it out in nice color (or send it to Staples to print for you) and that’s it! I don’t think you can make it glittery though. I really wanted the glitter.
Super easy.

Thanks Cathy they are Stride Rite and I am so sad to say she has really done a number on them after just a few weeks. They were absolutely darling while they lasted :P.

Charlene, Thank you!

I found on pinterest that if you add glitter to aloe vera gel it makes nice, safe “makeup” for small girls.
Charlene says
Hi Kim!
Yes or I have mixed it with sunscreen or lotion too and it does work great. The only thing is just watching putting normal glitter too close to the eye. A reader once warned me that it can cut your eye if a piece falls in. I thought maybe she was being dramatic and then guess who couldn’t wear contacts for 2 days because I got a little something in my eye and got a scratch :P. So she was right 🙂

WHere did you get your gold iron on transfer? I have a silouette but haven’t ventured into the heat transfer yet, i’m not sure where to get the supplies at. Thanks!
Charlene says
Nicole,
The gold iron on fabric is actually from Cricut because Silhouette doesn’t make it. It did work for me but I just put the iron right on top of the gold rather then a fabric in between like you are supposed to use.
This is what I ordered:

I can’t remember if I got it from Amazon or Hobby Lobby. It was expensive because the roll is pretty small but I think it will be OK because I plan to use Gold and Red for Christmas shirts too.
Oh and this was my first attempt at heat transfer and it is very similar to vinyl. You just get the right stuff and then cut it like you would vinyl and then iron it on. The only trick is switching your words to be mirror images and they tell you that in the directions. I got the heat transfer starter kit from Michael’s- it was $29 and then the 40% off coupon worked even though I don’t think it is supposed to. The kit basically includes a few sheets of various colors to get you started and that is pretty much it. I thought it was a rip off at $29 ;).

This is pretty cool. I have also planned a somewhat similar dress for my super-girl. She too loves glitter and sparkle and I guess these shining star stickers are fun to apply. Your girls look very adorable, Charlene. These stickers are indeed impressive.
To add an extra glisten to my little angel’s appearance, I have kept dainty stud earrings aside for her. They are rich red rubies that will perfectly match and complement her cute red and blue dress.
