Since Back to School time is here again I know many of you might be thinking about healthy lunchbox ideas that are still fun for kiddos.
Now there are zillions of creative and interesting ways to put together a lunchbox but many of them seem a little more then I can manage.
My lunchbox focus is usually healthy foods that the kids will actually eat. I have little tiny ones so I do try to incorporate fun as often as possible. The trick is incorporating fun in 5 minutes or less because I am surely not getting up an hour earlier to custom design a masterpiece for the Preschool crowd.
So here is one of my favorite little tricks and yes it is adding sugar to a lunchbox but it also makes the fruits and the veggies the most popular items you pack so well worth it in my opinion!
I like to buy these cute little eyeballs made by Wilton- they come in different sizes and you can find them at craft stores or Walmart. I got mine at Michaels for about $2.50 with a coupon.
They are so easy to adhere to fruits and veggies and I promise your children will love it!
You can stick them on with peanut butter, cream cheese or I have used those tiny little frosting tubes too. It just needs a little bitty drop and the eyes will stick on nicely.
You can see a Pluot below with the mini Wilton eyeballs or at the top is an apple with the larger ones.
Or if you have Monsters University and Monsters Inc. fans, try a Mike Wazowski apple!
Give it a shot and see what your kids think!
The plout lunch I packed for a pool day last week and the kids could not wait to tear into lunch. It was the first thing they grabbed out of the bag (which is saying a lot because we also had animal crackers that day.)
Oh and one last tip if you really don’t want to add that extra sugar to the lunchbox (and I totally get that)- Parents magazine has this cute little apple with poster tape and googley eyes stuck on.
That is another fantastic idea- my littlest might actually eat the eyes and/or the tape so I decided to skip that but I might try it with a banana.
See lots more fun tips and ideas on my Back to School pinterest board! And stay tuned for this week as I have several quick fix breakfast recipes coming your way!
