If you have children aged 8-12 you might be able to register for a free summer camp hosted by Apple!
This fills up VERY quickly so you do not want to wait to get signed up.
It is a free 3 day workshop where children will learn to shoot their own footage, create an original song in GarageBand on an iPad, and put it all together in iMovie on a Mac. This free workshop, held at Apple Retail Stores, spans three days and ends with campers debuting their masterpieces at the Apple Camp Film Festival.
I believe all (3) days will be at Apple stores and I think they are 1.5 hrs per day.
So the children can be entertained and learn something useful!
Head over here to select your time and location for the free Apple Summer camp workshops.
As of posting my store has tons of options available.
And don’t miss out on the free summer reading programs for children this summer!

We did this last year after you wrote about it. My son and his friend loved it, they had a great time and each of their movies were watched over and over! Great program!

Careen,
Were you required to have an ipad to attend? There is a question about that on facebook. So glad your son enjoyed it!
Erin says
Hi Charlene,
The confirmation says:
Here’s what to bring to the first day of Camp:
– A digital or video camera. If you don’t have one, we’ll give your child an opportunity to shoot footage in our store at the end of day one.
– A completed, signed permission statement.
As a reminder, parents are required to stay with their children in the store throughout Camp.
So i’m hoping you do not need to bring an iPad since we don’t have one.

Oh, this is really cool, but I didn’t realize that parents were required to stay in the store. That’s not really camp then 🙂
Charlene says
Stephanie that was kind of my thought too but at our mall they have these really nice seating areas in the middle part that would be nice to sit in. Our mall has free wi-fi too so you could sit and read or balance the checkbook or surf MFA 🙂
