On Saturday, May 11th, the Stamp Out Hunger campaign will celebrate it’s 21st year of collection!
If you would like to participate this year, all you need to do is collect non-perishable food items, put them in a bag and leave them out by your mailbox for your postal carrier to pick up on Saturday.
Here are some staggering statistics:
- 1 in 6 Americans are facing hunger.
- More than 50 million people, including nearly 17 million children, are facing hunger.
- Nearly 6 million Americans are fed by food banks each week.
I received a designated bag in my mail today so some of your might receive those, but if you don’t get one that’s OK just use any bag you have available.
All food items collected by your mail carrier will be donated to local food banks or pantries.
Some suggestions of items in need:
- Peanut butter
- Canned fish
- Packaged dried fruits
- Boxes of cereal
- Or any other shelf stable item
