Well it is nearly summer ya’ll. I can hardly believe how fast the months zip by and here we are at the end of April already.
Wondering what kinds of things you might find on sale in May?
Well this is a great month! The first thing to talk about is all the amazing produce we will (hopefully) see.
Corn on the cob will be abundant this month and prices typically go as low as $.10 an ear. There should also be great prices on pineapple and watermelon and as for veggies keep an eye out for gorgeous Vidalia Onions (we usually get Walla Walla onions in California) and artichokes. Now is a great time for summer squash pasta recipes or Zucchini bread because that will be in season.
This super easy Mexican Corn Recipe is a really delicious way to prepare your corn- trust me on this one and try it out.
Cinco De Mayo is at the start of the month so get ready for great sales on Tequila, Tortillas, Taco Seasonings, Cheese, Beans and other staples for Mexican food.
We also have Mother’s Day so you should see flowers, chocolates, cards, brunch items and more on sale in stores.
At the end of the month is Memorial Day and that will bring sales on BBQ products, soft drinks, ice cream, picnic supplies and more…
This time of year we start seeing great prices on sports drinks, sunscreen, allergy items and mosquito repellent.
Typically we will start seeing clearance sales on outdoor furniture at stores like Target, Home Depot, Lowe’s etc.. around mid May. These things go very fast so you might start keeping watch at the end of the month.
And for a quick preview of June- lots more BBQ and outdoor item sales, plus stuff for Father’s Day (beer, grilling products etc..) and it is national dairy month. Typically there are some great coupons and great sales on ice cream, yogurt etc…
I am especially excited because organic produce has been hard to find in my area. I am finally starting to see organic berries pop up in my grocery stores- and the strawberries especially are gorgeous!

Jeanette- you are welcome! Just note that this is just a general guide. Here in Sacramento I am already wearing tank tops and in other parts of the country it is still snowing. So obviously the produce will vary quite a bit but it gives you an idea of the types of things you should see 🙂
