There is a slightly better deal on Post Cereals this week at Safeway Family Stores.
The ad features Post Honey Bunches cereal and Fruity Pebbles at $1.99 per box (limit 4). You can use $1/2 coupons to pay $1.49 each.
Now if you check your Just for You account, there is a coupon for a free gallon of milk (up to $3.99) when you buy 4 cereal.
So depending on the price of your milk, this could work out to a nice deal. I happen to buy organic milk which is outrageously expensive.
Here is how the deal works out for me:
Buy 4 Post Honey Bunches at $1.99
Buy 1 gallon organic milk at $5.99
Use (2) $1/2 coupons from 8/19 SS
Get $3.99 off a gallon of milk
Pay $7.96 for all 5 items
Since my milk would have been $5.99 regardless, it works out to $.49 per box for my cereal!
Now again if your milk is considerably less expensive, this might not be as good of a deal for you. I think regular milk is $2.99 in my area, so that would work out to $.75 per box of cereal.
You can see more coupons and Safeway deals for the week here.
You can read all about Just for U here.
Thanks Endcapps!
I don’t see this coupon in my J4U, maybe it’s regional?
Rachel,
Mine was under coupon center and then breakfast & cereal. Usually those coupons are the same for everyone but maybe this one isn’t.
I am sure you know this being as I come to YOUR site to check for deals, but I always buy my kids organic milk as well and I get it at Sprouts and it is $3/gallon almost every week on sale, and then if I have to pay full price (CHOKE!) it is $3.99. It is the Shamrock Farms brand FYI. I know you are in northern CA where things are just priced higher because they think they can, but thought I would put the info out there just in case. 🙂
Thank you for ALL that you do!
was just looking at this as I have a J4U price of 4.42 for O Organic milk
so the milk is purchased in same transaction? was wondering if it was that or if buying cereal generated coupon for free milk
did it work OK for you Charlene? I always have problems when I try to get organic milk in these types of promotions
I loaded “Post Cereal – on a gallon of milk when you buy any FOUR (4) Post cereals” to J4U last week and it expires 9/22
Franki I just realized my milk coupon expired 9/18. I think you do need to buy it at once since it is a coupon. Now I am grumpy that I missed the personal deal but I will still probably try this. If I have any issues at checkout I can just pull it up on my phone and they can deal with it. If I remember gallons of chocolate milk were $3.99 in the ad if one is inclined toward that.
Amy,
I buy at Sprouts frequently too but thank you for the tip. I have never seen it as low as you get it but they seem to hover around $5.29 so still the cheapest around. I got rainchecks when they had a nice deal a few weeks back so I need to cash those in sometime soon :).
if anyone has thepost fruity pepples boxes still in therir pantrys from a few weeks ago when the catalina deal was running my boxes have a .75 /1 coupon in them. these coupons don’t expire till mid next year but i think this is the time to use them because of the milk. some of these boxes are still on store shelves too so look when you buy. it says $100 worth of coupons on the front bottom part of box . since these will double it will only be $2.00 for 4 boxes and a milk that is almopst $4 for regular in MD
My Safeway now carries Heritage organic milk. It has the “Real California Milk” seal so you can use one of the .55 q’s. You can get them at the real calif milk website. These q’s are tricky because they always seem to beep—even when I’ve gotten the regular type ones from the Real Calif. Milk folks. I usually give to cashier last and tell them they may have to enter it manually. They usually know all about this q and will accept it.
How does it come out to .49 per box?!? And why would it be more expensive if the milk is cheaper? won’t it come out to the same price
$1.99 x 4 boxes of cereal – $2 in coupons = $5.96 which is $1.49 per box, but you are saying it is .49 or .75 if the milk is cheaper. I guess I am quite confused on this one LOL
Pat,
You need to factor in the cost of your milk because you get the milk for free. The value of the milk is up to $3.99. If your gallon of milk is actually priced at $1.99 that is the amount that will come off your total. Since my milk is priced at $5.99 I would get an entire $3.99 off the total which makes this a better deal for me then for someone that has milk priced at $1.99.
Here is what was posted:
Buy 4 Post Honey Bunches at $1.99
Buy 1 gallon organic milk at $5.99
Use (2) $1/2 coupons from 8/19 SS
Get $3.99 off a gallon of milk
Pay $7.96 for all 5 items
I just used my example above- since I will buy milk regardless of what promotions are running I simply took the cost of my milk ($5.99) off the total paid of $7.96 to calculate the cost per box. That leaves me with $1.97 ($7.96- $5.99) for 4 boxes of cereal.
Murpath,
My Walmart carries that brand but it is not a full gallon. Is yours a full gallon? I did the math once at Walmart and even with the coupon it still worked out to be more expensive. Yes I have a love hate with those coupons :). They are a nice bonus but they do beep every time.
Weird thing is that I do not have that coupon on SS 8/19. Just live 10 miles from you the most (in Folsom.)
