There is a free app available today for Android users- get Couch to 5k for free. This app is a training tool to help you start a running program.
I actually had a running group a few years ago and we used this program, I found it to be a very easy way to train. The goal is to take 9 weeks and get someone that has never run before to running 3 miles.

This is an awesome ap! I started it last year (and believe me, I couldn’t run a block), it was intense for me but it really works! I ran my first 5k soon after and am just working on speed. Who’da thunk a 45 year old, 70 lb overwieght woman could run a 5k?!!
