Safeway Deals 3/9-3/15

This post may contain affiliate links, please see my disclosure policy.

You can see Safeway’s coupon policy right here. Most stores will allow you to stack a manufacturer coupon with the store coupons that can be found in the weekly circulars. You will want to be sure to get a club card for Safeway to take advantage of the sale prices! Safeway sale prices tend to vary from region to region so you will always want to double check your local ad! Also, I do not have double coupons in my area so your prices are likely much better than mine!

Be sure to read about the new Just for U program rolling out at Safeway!

I got those deals as a mailer in my snail mail last week (I’m in Citrus Heights). It worked out to an awesome trip! That thing had a $10/$50, FREE Safeway Pasta and Pasta Sauce, FREE Ketchup, and FREE Taco Shells. On top of all the other deals this last week I did pretty well. I spent $10.22 and saved $94.85 (or 90%)!!! So I might check my Just4U to see if I get lucky and get those coupons in there too! But be sure to check your mail too!

Actually, the shrimp is $5 per lb., but it’s sold in 2 lb. bags, so it’s $10 per bag. (I got tricked by that wording once before, so I know the hard way.) But that’s a decent price for shrimp anyway.

    03/09/2011 at 9:18 AM

@Anna – thanks for the tip. I thought $2.50/lb was AWESOME for shrimp, but $5 is not considering I have some in my freezer already, lol.

    Other deals:
    Tropicana 59oz, 3
    -$1 mfq from 3/6 = $2 each

A reminder to everyone to check their Just4U accounts for personalized prices. I was able to score some really great deals last week and some good match-ups this week:

*SW Butter Top Wheat Bread, personalized price 1.49 combined w/BOGOF sale = .75/loaf

*Sargento Sliced Cheese, personalized price 2.44 combined w/BOGOF sale and $1/2 mfq from Football Booklet = .72/package (stock up IMO)

I have great personal prices too. I think the only way Just 4 You redeems itself is on BOGO sales. I have a great price on the lunchmeat and actually pasta sauce too.

    Tiffany,
it’s funny about Sargento, I just saw I have the same price on my JFU and I was thinking about the BOGOF sale for this week. But I was thinking “Wait a minute? can they combine both sale prices?”
Does someone know if our JFU price can be added to a BOGOF sale, because that will be a really good stock up price for the cheese.
    Thanks

  7. Charlene says

    03/09/2011 at 9:45 AM

Stephanie in the past the J4U price has worked on BOGO sales. One Sargento should ring up at your personal price and the second for free. I would test 2 packs just to be sure but it has worked for me in the past.

    03/09/2011 at 10:02 AM

My personalized price on bread worked with the bogof sale that ended yesterday, so I don’t think you’ll have a problem, but like Charlene said, you may want to do one transaction with just those two items to see what happens… or do those first, and then add in the rest of your cart.

    More great deals:
    Classico Pasta Sauce bogof @3.79
    -1 peelies
-free red wyb 2 white sauces

I came up with buying 5 sauces for 1.79… can someone check my math?

    (4) White Classico Pasta Sauce, BOGOF 3.79
    -(2)1 mfq
    (1) Red Classico Pasta Sauce, bogof 3.79
    -free wyb 2 white

    (2) Philly Cream Cheese Tubs, BOGOF 3.29
-1/2 mfq from booklet found at Nob Hill/Raleys
    = 2.29/2 = 1.15 each

** there is also $1/2 for Kraft/Cracker Barrel Chunk Cheese in the same booklet

    (2) Philly Cooking Cream, BOGOF 4.39
    -1.50 mfq
    = 2.89/2 = 1.45 each

SW Bagels, .33 each (Husband loves Jalapeno Cheddar, lol)

Thanks Charlene and Tiffany for that.
I just came back from SW and it didn’t work and when I went to customer service the guy told me that the system chooses the better deal (which I was afraid of). Anyway I called SW when I returned home and the lady told me that she’s positive and it works on a BOGOF sale, my only problem is that I thought I loaded the coupon and I actually didn’t (I felt so stupid :))
Anyway I’ll go back but I don’t know what I should do since I’m going to loose those coupons now.

Ok well lets not alert them to this glitch 😉 It is the one saving grace I can see of Just 4 You and leave it to safeway to wreck it.

  11. Stephanie says

    03/09/2011 at 1:32 PM

You’re right Charlene but you know what I thought, is that if those JFU coupons work on BOGOF sales, they’re going to notice at one point or another that we can have great deals and they’re going to cut on that again. Better to take advantage of that while it lasts.
But I agree to not alert 😉

Update – no bogof on classico in my store, they’re priced at 1.49 each. I bought (2) whites and (1) red, used (2)1 off any classico and free red wyb 2 white coupons for .98 for 3 jars. I just noticed that in the 3/6 SS there is a $1 off fresh beef wyb 2 classico’s… I wish I had seen that before my trip to score cheap beef!!

FYI: at my SFWY–bogo on oscar mayer bacon: price increased to $6.99 (not $4.99).
johnsonville breakfast links: $3.39 is final price ($4.39 is price and then $1 off advertised). i was a little bummed out–i was hoping to stock up but these prices are only ok…so maybe next time!

I got the Classico sauces for $1.49 each also. I had the $1.00 / off 2 Classicos when you buy beef coupon. I bought one pack of beef and 4 Classicos with the 2 coupons (no problem). I think those type of coupons work at SW whether you buy the item they tell you to buy or not (at least that is how they work for me )

Also weird thing : The Heinekin 12 packs are $10.99 in Natomas (Del Paso) and only $9.99 in Carmichael (Fair Oaks) Weird – the stores are only 20 mins. or so apart !! And even the ads are different ???

Also the BOGO cheese. Look for peelies on the Kraft shredded cheese. If you buy one Kraft shredded cheese & one Cracker Barrell 10 oz. cheese for $4.99 / there is a $1. Q peelie. So you get them both for $3.99 which is a good deal for premium cheese (aged sharp cheddar, Vermont white etc.)

I also noticed they jacked the Oscar Mayer bacon price to $6.99 for the BOGO /// BOO safeway 🙁

  15. Liliya says

    03/13/2011 at 3:35 AM

I got a personalized price on Kraft cheese of $1.90 and since it’s BOGO, I used 2 $1 off peelies (Kraft cheese with a touch of Philadelphia) and got them both FREE…. so check your Just for You accounts..Also, Trident Vitality gum is BOGO and you can use the BOGO coupon from 3/6/11 Smart Source and get them Free!

@Charlene, thank you very much for the match-ups for this week. I had a great shop tonight thanks to you! Saved $250 (about 68% savings). Your match-ups really helped this week. I appreciate what you do!

@Liliya, thanks again for the comment on my blog today about the match-ups for Safeway. You are so sweet!

Safeway was quickly becoming my favorite store…until I went yesterday and found out about the new coupon policy (northern DE):
Safeway no longer allows two or more of the same coupon.
    Wha?
Apparently, whether internet or printable, shoppers are limited to ONE coupon per customer. I had (4) $0.70/1 Kellogg’s Raisin Bran coupons that would have doubled to $1.40, making the cereal $0.60/box (on sale $2 ea). The cashier broke my heart (I went to buy the cereal for my nephew) when she said she was only allowed to accept one of the coupons. I told her it was okay, just take off 3 cereals. Then I went to Customer Service to confirm the new policy.
    Yikes!!

  18. Charlene says

    03/16/2011 at 7:44 PM

JJ This is where the policy is:

    http://www.safeway.com/IFL/Grocery/Coupons-Policy

I don’t see anything like that but I guess we shall look for more updates from them.

I had my copy at the store, and when I pulled it out to ask for an explanation, the store mgr pointed to this:
“We may change these rules at any time. All coupon redemption terms are subject to the terms of the rules in effect at time of redemption. Rule changes may become effective without advance notice or advertisement. The current rules will be posted at the customer service area in each store. You are also advised to periodically check our website for any changes to these rules.”
If I ever go back, I’ll have to work up the nerve to ask for the new rule in writing, since “current rules will be posted at the CSA in each store”.
