Well this is super exciting for me! We try to give Milo high quality food and premium dog food is so expensive! If the stars align for you this weekend you can get bags of Hill Science Diet for free at Petsmart!
They have 4.5lb Bags priced at $5.00
There are $5/1 coupons in the 1/9 SS (the same one with the Motrin/Tylenol coupons)
Final Price: Free!
Note the coupon is for LITE dog food which my chubby big boned guy needs anyway, but there is a chance your store might not carry Lite flavors.
There is also an $8 Hill Science Diet printable coupon available.
Each store will handle coupons differently- so the last time we had a sale like this some of you had trouble with coupons higher in value than the product. You can always try buying 2 bags at $5 each and use the $8 coupon to pay a buck a bag.
This is a really fantastic deal and I am heading over to PetSmart tonight for sure!
You can see the Petsmart ad here- it looks like the sale runs 2/18-2/21 only and I just bet they run out of this dog food. You might be able to price match the ad at Target or Walmart but the insert coupons are only valid at Petsmart.
*It looks like you need to register for Pet Perks before you go- it is a free program.
(Thanks Katy Couponers)

Thank you so much for posting info. on coupons for Science Diet! It is rare to find coupons for this and at $35 for the 35 # bag-it can get expensive!
Also, I don’t know if you were lucky enough to find this, but back in Nov-Dec in the big bags of Science Diet they had $10 gift cards for Petsmart inside. This info. was marked on outside of the bag.
Good deal, but just so you know, Science Diets is one of the junkiest dog foods out there. The ingredients should not list corn or byproduct, especially not the first several ingredients! Yuck!
Thanks!! I just picked up 2 bags for free!
I don’t have any dogs but I’ll hit the store tomorrow since it’ll be a great way to buy some dog foods to donate at the shelter.
Thanks for posting this. I was able to pick up 2 bags at the Concord store. Every little bit helps.
Melissa- thanks for the feedback. This was actually what my vet recommended so we are going to try it and see. I will check the label though.

My vet recommended this too for my cats.. and it’s the only food they use at the shelter (and they’re very picky about the food there!)
(Oh this is a different Melissa, this comment and the one right above are me, the one way up there is another Melissa. lol)
Charlene-
I thought you lived near me. I live in Lincoln and I don’t have the motrin or this coupon in my 1/9ss…. 🙁
Shelly, just a few miles away. I specified the insert because there were 2 SS that week. One very small one and one that was larger with Motrin etc on the cover.
I found it. Ran to get some free dog food for my brother since I don’t have dogs and they said that a lady came in earlier and wiped out the whole shelf and the back. wtf? I am soo considerate of others and sharing deals if there happens to be anyone in the area that reads your blogs, but this has been about the 5th time and it’s really upsetting. So from now on I’m not being nice.
In the San Francisco Chronicle, I didn’t have the coupon in the 1/9 SS. Gosh darn it, I get so frustrated with the regional coupon insert differences! Melissa (the one who thinks Science Diet is junky) — what dog food do you recommend? I have used Iams and Eukanuba in the past and am looking for new wisdom.
I think Petco will price match if you have the ad- and there is a $10 MIR I found at the Petco website so this is a potential MM!
Sorry Shelly. It might not be MFA- this was posted a few places. I went to the one in Roseville and I got one of the Lite. They had maybe 4 total of that. I got 6 of the other kids with the printable coupons. The shelves were very full of the other kinds- maybe 5 flavors? So maybe your brother can drive to the Fairway store.
I went to Pet Smart tonight. We don’t have a dog but I try to donate food to the zoo/shelter that we have in the county. It is an interesting place. They take in all animals including abused animals like lions, monkeys, bears, etc. The Pet Smart shelf had been cleared. The cashier said that some people came in and left with shopping carts filled. So greedy. They were very nice at the store and the manager wrote me a rain check.
I also went to the Fairway store this afternoon and the shelves were full. I got a few bags and took them to the SPCA with the kids as we don’t have a dog.
I’ll back Melissa #1 on this. Science Diet is a very low quality food with a high price tag. It is a good deal, especially if you donate it to a shelter. But if you normally pay full price for this food you would be better off feeding your dog Purina or Pedigree (less $$ out of pocekt for similar quality). Check out dogfoodanalysis.com and see for yourself how science diet rates. Especially the weightloss variety. Some vets are paid to recommend this food, and in vet school’s, many of the diet and nutrition classes are sponsored by Science Diet. Not that your vet isn’t a good person or vet, but their opinion might not be totally objective. Switching to an higher quality food pays off in the long run. You feed them less of it per unit volume, and they’re healthier!
also…Science Diet probably donates food to the shelters or sells to them at a substantial discount.
