Reminder: Register For Free Starbucks Drinks

Just a reminder that you can register for Starbucks Rewards.  If you register for the program you will get a coupon in the mail for a free drink of your choice on your birthday.  I just got my birthday card a few weeks ago and I got a Venti Latte totally free.

If you buy drinks at Starbucks, you can  buy a gift card and register it for Starbucks Rewards. Here is what you get:

  • Use that same registered card 5 times and then you qualify for free syrups added to your drinks.
  • Once you use the card 30 times (yikes!) you will hit Gold status and you start earning a free beverage for every 15 times you use your card.  Starbucks will mail you a postcard coupon to get your free drink.

So I do go to Starbucks every so often and we set a budget for the next few months and I just reloaded my card.  I know some people may have received gift cards for Christmas so I thought I’d post a reminder about this free program!

Just an FYI – you can register EVERY gift card you get to earn your free rewards for 1 account (so everyone in your family who goes to Starbucks and uses a gift card can be in on the rewards for the free drink). You can also combine all the money on your cards into one card (no more have $.15 on this card &1.03 on that one…). You can add money onto your card online. You can also apparently set your account to automatically reload your card when your balance gets below a certain amount (that could be dangerous!) 🙂

30 drinks sounds like a lot to get a free one, but I earned a free drink in about 3 1/2 months and I typically only go to Starbucks about 2 times a week.

I like that the service is free and the only negative I have found is that since I get Chai (and it’s usually to go), that I can’t take advantage of many of the freebies you get with the card (free refills on drip coffee, free syrups, etc).

One more thing about this program is that it is 30 transactions, not 30 items. So if you are getting a drink and a scone, have them ring it up separately and it counts as two “stars” instead of one. Or if you are going with a friend and they don’t have a card, have them give you a couple bucks and use your card for their purchase and there’s one free star. I go with my sister once a week and she always does this and I got there twice as fast for half the cost. It takes a little doing, but all bargains do! 🙂 I just got my third free drink card in the mail so it’s a great little program if you take the time to work it.
