Reader Kina had an awesome week at Rite Aid! She spent $6.43 and got a $7 ECB back- so a profit of $.57!
Here is what she did:
2 Huggies- $8.99 each- used $2.50 and $2 coupon
2 Gain-.89- used (2) $1 coupons
Bounty Paper Towels-$4.99- used .50/1 coupon
V05-.67
Her subtotal was $25.42 and she used a $5/25 Rite Aid coupon (no longer available) plus $6.99 in +Up from a prior trip. She got (2) $3 +Up from Huggies and $1 +Up from Bounty.
What a great way to show how you can roll your rewards!

Charlene the Huggies Little Movers Jean diapers have $2 coupons inside of them! When I ran out of the printables I opened up a couple of my stock packs and grabbed these coupons to roll my rewards! I am good on diapers until at least the next sale:) Just feel both sides of the package, and where the huggies rewards code is it feels like a much larger square than usual(that is the coupon and booklet taped to the inside). I love me some diaper deals!
Becca says
I think it’s a little misleading to call that a profit because she spent $6.43 cash plus $6.99 +Up rewards and got $7 +Up rewards. I’d call that spending $6.42 net, which is definitely a great deal for all those products.
Charlene says
Ok Becca however you like to look at it is fine. I didn’t ask how she got the prior +Up so maybe she paid almost nothing and got them- who knows… It is actually a little tricky to post someone else’s shopping trip. Regardless I think she did a wonderful job.
Molly says
I have to agree with Becca here, because you are counting the +up rewards from the previous time (no matter how they were earned), AND the ones she earned on this trip. The way I do my trips, is I figure out whether an item is worth buying based on the price after coupons and ‘rewards’ earned, so the 2 packs of diapers she bought would have been $17.98 minus $5.50 in coupons, and $6.00 in ‘rewards’ earned equals $6.48 for 2 or $3.24 each which is certainly a good price. BUT when I figure what I paid for the trip I only count HOW I paid not WHAT I received. So her total was $25.42 which she paid with the $5 store coupon, $7.00 manufacture coupons, and $6.99 in previous +up rewards, so the total OOP (out of pocket) for this trip was $6.43.
Charlene says
Ok. I will try to take more care in being precise if I post any further trips. To me it is not a big deal at all because I listed what she did so you can figure it any way you want. I can see that being more exact is necessary so I probably won’t post any more reader trips. It is surprisingly time consuming to try and sort through exactly what someone did and where they got everything.

I think this is fantastic! I really like seeing these trips because it really motivates me. I understood where you were going with that post and I don’t find it to be misleading at all. You said exactly what she did and I would just ignore the people that are going to complain no matter what you do. Honestly, Becca and Molly get a life and stop nitpicking over silly things. If you can do a better job than she does start your own blog and take all the hours out of your day to post things like this to help people!
Shellie says
Wow- the diapers are amazing. I can’t believe I once paid $10 for a pack- way to go Kina!
I don’t think it is misleading either. The other ladies do have a point but it doesn’t really seem worth mentioning to me. Just ignore the critics and keep posting I love these trips!!!!
Molly says
Wowzie, I’m really shocked that someone would call that nitpicking. Just so you know, if you’re a little short on money (aren’t we all trying to save a little here, I thought that was the point of these blogs), there is a huuuuge difference between saying you will profit on a deal, when it will actually cost you (no matter how litle). I actually thought Charlene sounded offended by Becca’s comment, so I was trying to clarify, that’s the only reason I even commented.
Charlene says
Well I don’t want any unpleasantness. I am not offended. I spend a considerable amount of time on the blog and sometimes I just make mistakes. There is no secret team of people helping me behind the scenes and typically I am rushing to post at naptime, whilst making dinner, while I am on the phone scheduling appointments all sorts of things. So I apologize for being misleading it was not the intent. I make mistakes pretty regularly but the tradeoff is to simply post less than half of what I post now and stop doing store match ups entirely or just expect that there will occasionally be things that are not communicated perfectly. In this case, I was in a rush and probably could have taken extra time to lay it all out much better. Had I done that, I probably would have had to skip at least 2 other posts that day.
To respond to comments and edit posts might seem like no big deal- but just responding to comments alone is probably 2 hours of my time each day. That doesn’t include at least 400 emails a day and I try to respond to as many as possible. Often I just simply can’t go back and edit things- I just literally do not have the time to do it. So I have taken the time to edit this one and I will not post any other ones unless I can take 20 or 30 minutes to really go through and make sure everything is perfectly explained. Again, I am not upset or offended I am just trying to explain why things are not always perfect. I probably won’t post any others because I just can’t take 20-30 minutes of time to do these.
PS: Molly and Becca please don’t feel uncomfortable to comment on MFA. This is a friendly place and any observations are welcome and encouraged! I tend to be a blunt person and I think that reads as cranky sometimes in print. It certainly isn’t meant that way 😉
Kyra says
I think that a certain level of common sense is also a reasonable expectation from people that read blogs. She did say exactly what the person did and it was a profit for the person shopping. I think to take the time to complain is a little silly. Charlene- I think you can only do your best and your best happens to be pretty darn great in my book!
Molly says
Kyra, I’m not complaining here, and it isn’t silly. Yes she said exactly what the person did, except for the title. The lady DID NOT make a profit, No matter how you look at it. You can disagree if you want, but I hope that’s not how you figure your shopping trips, because you’ll soon start wondering where your money went. Enough said. And thankyou Charlene for responding, I appreciate your being candid.
