SAFEWAY: $3.99
Baby Bella Mushrooms $3.99
Garlic .50
Bread $1.50- used $1 coupon= .50
2 Del Monte Smoothies $1- Used (2) $1 coupons= Free
And I used a $1 produce coupon and paid $3.99
CVS #1 $9.54
This trip didn’t go as planned…
King Size Snickers $1 (as filler)- used .75 coupon from CVS coupon scanner= .25
Phillips Earbuds $6.99
3 Oral B Toothbrushes $3.79- Used BOGO coupon, Used (2) .75 coupons
1 Oral B toothbrush .94 on clearance
Used $2 ECB and $4/20 coupon from scanner and paid $9.54, got $5 ECB for Oral B and $6.99 for Earbuds.
I should have been able to use (2) BOGO coupons. I gave those first and the cashier said I could only use one. I have to call customer service tomorrow because that was incorrect.
Transaction #2:
Cascade $3.99
High Octane $1.99
Used $5 ECB from transaction #1 and paid $1.31. (The Cascade is not an especially good deal- we are just out of dish soap.) Got $1 ECB for Cascade and $1.99 for High Octane.
So my net cost at CVS was $2.87 and it actually would have been a .90 moneymaker except the cashier that thwarted me.
KRISTA says
I am sorry that happened to you at CVS, but I am glad to hear that it happens to the professional couponistas from time to time, too! I was starting to think it was just me.
Charlene says
No happens to me not nearly as often as it did when I started. No biggie. I never get upset- I just call customer service and usually they resolve the problem.

FYI-shortcuts just added another e-coupon for Almond Breeze if you want to hit up Safeway tomorrow for the last day of the catalina. We just stocked up on this deal this last weekend-I think my husband is going to laugh when I tell him we are going back again.

So you can use the bogo Q’s with the other Q’s? I was a little confused with the toothbrush deal. I think I’m still kind of chicken when it comes to using muliple Q’s. I got it down at Target though.
Kelly says
I’m pretty sure I was at the same CVS and had the same thing happen. The cashier gave me back one of the BOGO coupons and told me I could one use one because they were already on a BOGO sale (they weren’t, but I was confused). I just took it with me and did the same transaction again at the CVS on Stanford Ranch. Have you tried that one? I’ve been having better luck there.
PS How does Customer Service resolve it for you? Do you have to mail in the coupon or go back to the store?
Charlene says
Yes Christina for the most part you can. Some coupons lately that are BOGO have been beeping which means you need a cashier to push it through or you can’t use a second coupon. It does make sense- in this case 4 items and 4 coupons. Regardless, I gave him the BOGOs first and there is no reason at all I couldn’t use (2) BOGO coupons with 4 items. I just didn’t feel like spending my energy arguing my point.

Hi Charlene,
If you don’t mind, can you let me know where you found the Del Monte Smoothies ? Is it in the juice aisle? The red plum coupons are back for those and I wanted to try them.
Thanks
Charlene says
Save in LA_ they are good! We had the pomegranate one yesterday. Anyhoo- they are not frozen they are in the produce area of my stores in a corner. Next to the freshly cut fruit packs and the tofu and stuff.
If you don’t see them I would ask the produce guy because they should be in his dept.
SaveinLa says
Thanks Charlene. I will check them out today.
monica says
there’s a bogo coupon for the high octane which makes 2 free. I just done remember which site I saw this posted on. ๐
Judith says
I did the Oral-B toothbrushes deal yesterday and had no problem, except that when I go in the car and start checking the receipt, I noticed the cashier didn’t discount the second BOGO coupon I gave her. I went back and told her, and she gave the $3 she didn’t discount…
So, they did take the two BOGO coupons, that was at El Dorado Hills CVS
Randi says
During the BOGO Stayfree deal a while back I had this same problem and I emailed customer service, she told me that it’s up to the manager to allow more than one. The way she explained it was
If Revlon lipstick was on sale BOGO and you had a coupon that was a BOGO coupon you would be able to purchase 2 items and they would both be free. It was up to the manager to allow you to purchase more than two though. Either way, you would pay nothing for the two, since CVS would cover the cost of one and the coupon would cover the cost of the other. Let me know if they tell you different, I have the email she sent me printed and with my store policies.
Charlene says
Randi- it isn’t exactly the same although you are right about your situation with a BOGO sale. I purchased 4 and had 2 BOGO coupons. At that point I have not given him any other coupons and the Oral B is not on sale BOGO. All 4 are full price so there is no reason whatsoever to refuse one of the coupons. He could have refused the (2) .75 off ones that I used but I had not given those to him yet. Just an inexperienced cashier.
Monica- I posted the coupon but I didn’t want two so I didn’t bother printing it. I didn’t even want one I just needed a fast filler to use the $5 ECB. I will just add the one bag to my monthly donation bags.

I did pretty good today at cvs, I bought a conair hair straightner for $19.99 plus at the scanner I got a Q for a free 2 oz cvs hand sanitizer which made up the differnce so I can use my $4 off $20 Q which I also got from the scanner . plus I had a $6.99 ecb from buying the earphones on sunday and $1.00 ecb for using my reusable bag so total with tax and after Q’s $9.46 I had a $5.oo gift card I had from expotv .I paid oop $4.46 and got back a $5.00 ecb for the straightner. I LOVE FREE STUFF!
Sarah says
Charlene, When you go through checkout do you hand your coupons one at a time to make sure they go through?
Charlene says
Yes I am a fussy old lady about it ๐ I hand them one by one unless I have my little darlings and I need free hands. My time is too valuable to fool with refunds and such is the way I look at it and they are getting paid no matter how slow I am so I just try to think like that. Lots of people write checks and that takes far longer than for me to use coupons.
Sarah says
I think I’m going to start doing that too. Do you have a specific order that you hand them that works best? (like store coupons before manufacturer’s?) Sorry for all the questions–I’m new at this (and have already had cashier-missing-coupons problems)!
Charlene says
Sarah, I just use common sense when I do it- so like if I have a $ off coupon- say a $5/20 coupon, I always give those first. Then store coupons. Then usually the highest value coupons- so any BOGOs etc..
And that is how- I usually figure I’d rather lose $.75 than $3.99 if I get a hassle so I try to make sure the big boys go through first.
