Walmart.com has a pretty good sale on play kitchens right now for the littles. This Step2 Custom Lifestyle kitchen is marked down to $65 and it looks like shipping to your home is free.
They also have this Step2 Lifestyle Dream Play kitchen for $159 and it appears shipping is free to your home. You can get a better deal by going though Amazon– the price is the same and they also offer free shipping. Amazon typically doesn’t charge sales tax so they have the better deal.
These are good prices for Step2- we actually have one very similar to the Dream Kitchen. It is extremely durable and my 1 year old and 3 year old love it. They tend to get the pieces everywhere though so if yours are as young as mine you might skip the extra accessories for now.

Just a reminder to California readers that the fact that an online retailer doesn’t charge sales tax doesn’t relieve taxpayers of the obligation to pay sales tax for items they keep and use in California. So even though Amazon doesn’t charge sales tax, Californians are responsible for keeping track of those purchases that they use in this state and for paying tax on their state tax returns. So that “no tax” bargain just means deferred taxes and more record keeping and calculation if you’re going to follow the state law… we find it to be a pain in the neck and prefer to pay the sales tax to the retailer than calculate it at tax time…

Thank you for the reminder Deborah. Just for the record though this blog does not offer any tax advice whatsoever so please see a CPA for assistance with any financial or tax matters.

My niece received the Lifestyle Dream kitchen (the 2003 version) for her 2nd birthday. It is beautiful!!! She got years of joy from it and now my 4 year old daughter is enjoying it.
It is a great investment toy especially if you have several children or are planning on having a big brood! Even the boys love it.

Of course, Charlene, and I’m sorry if I steered the conversation in a direction that’s inappropriate for your blog. I know you work so hard to help us all save money and in the course of that I just didn’t want anyone to forget that they may need to investigate whether they have any further obligations with respect to tax for online purchases…but I’m certainly no tax advisor, either! Thanks for all your AMAZING advice!
