If you have been watching the news you have probably seen the terrible devastation in Haiti. I remember hearing stories years ago about the poverty in Haiti from friends that visited and they still bother me to this day.
There is something that everyone can do to help- no matter how tight your budget. The first thing they are looking for is financial donations and there is a great list HERE of various charities that are trustworthy.
If you live in the Southeast Jenny has a wonderful round up HERE of places in your area that you can also drop off donations. According to CNN there is a bottleneck of supplies right now and they are hoping to start getting supplies through soon.
One thing we can all do is go through the pantry and cupboards and put together bags of items to donate- even the smallest things like clothing, toothbrushes and cereal can be a great way to contribute. You can donate to the Salvation Army by finding a location near you HERE.
And it is always good to remember all the great charities out there that need help. Often times when a disaster like this occurs people focus all their energy on one area and other organizations that need help day after day are forgotten. So don’t forget your pet shelters, homeless shelters, battered women’s shelters and more would all appreciate any help you can offer!

I think it’s great to donate to area organizations. Did you know this is the slowest time all year for food bank donations?
But, I think the best thing to do for the earthquake victims is to donate cash to a repubtable charity-try charitynavigator to help find one.
I think trying to donate supplies would probably just cause more headaches. Better to get the money to groups already on the ground who know best what their needs are and how to get them. I like Habitat for Humanity, World Vision, and Doctors Without Borders. They all have groups working on the ground already, and they’re all taking donations. Just my two cents. Maybe we can all donate what we saved through your great deals this week!

Great points Meg. I hear from readers that are on exceptionally tight budgets and are unemployed and struggle just to pay the rent. The point is that really everyone can contribute something even if it is just toothpaste or whatever at least you can feel like you are helping in some way!

Just saw that you can donate swagbucks for Haiti….a certain amount of swagbucks equals a dollar amount that they will donate.
