This might be something that everyone knows about- but it was new to me and I wanted to share my bargain find.
Did you know your grocery store sells fresh herb plants for next to nothing? I didn’t! I love fresh dill in my favorite Orzo pasta recipe and used to spend $4 or so on dill from the produce section. I love Rosemary in eggs and potatoes and purchased plants at Home Depot for $6 or so.
Then I discovered herb plants in the floral department of Safeway for $1.95- they had a large selection available. I also found a wide variety at Raleys for just $1.50.
So if you love fresh herbs in your food- check the floral department! My plants have held up surprisingly well- despite my black thumb!

I've given up on growing cilantro (it always goes to seed before my tomatoes are ripe), but I grow basil. This year, like last year, I'm keeping a pot of basil indoors. It's so convenient … and I'd never pay for a bunch of fresh basil every time I needed a few leaves!
