There is a nice deal on these elastic hair ties. I have been using these for ages now and they are great! They slide right out of your hair- so no tangles like you sometimes get from elastic bands. They don’t leave those awful creases in your hair and they are really cute too!
When you have your hair down you can put these on like a bracelet.
I usually figure $1 or less per hair band is a good price. You can actually make these yourself- I made them a long time ago. The issue I found with making them is that the price is pretty close to the same- I paid about $3.00 (with coupon) for the elastic and I got about 4 hair bands out of the package. Also I actually went to 4 stores in my area and the only colors available were baby blue, pastel pink and white. It seems like you need to order bulk quantities online in order to get a nice variety of elastic and I don’t need 100 hair bands myself ;).
So anyway, grab 10 of these in assorted colors for $4.99. Shipping adds $2.50 which makes a total price of $7.49 or $.74 per band.
Head over to Very Jane to take a look.
PS: Has anyone else made these at home or is interested in seeing a tutorial on how to make them?
I’d love to see how you make these!! Thank you for such a great blog!
Are these elastic or not? They are super cute! I usually use the cheap goody elastic bands.
Charlene,
I would really like to see how these are made and would be a great project to do with my 7 year old for the fall or winter time! Thank you!
Karla, it is a fold over elastic. So it is stretchy like elastic waist pants ;). They are not stretchy like a normal hair band. My hair is crazy thick and I love not having a big dent in it. For my girls they tend to have a big tangled mess of hair by the end of the day and those cheapy bands we usually have to cut them out of their hair. These things I can literally yank out of their hair and it pulls right off. No crying! Oh and I do pretty intense workouts at the gym and these things hold my hair back perfectly. I just tie it about 3x around or so. Hope that makes sense!
Yes, PLEASE!! I’m obsessed with these hair ties. I just bought the ones from Very Jane, but I’ve really wanted to make my own. So, if you do the tutorial, could you also share where the best place is to get the elastic????
AMY! How are you darlin? I never hear from you anymore! I will. I got mine at Joann’s and Hobby Lobby- Joann’s only has baby pink and baby blue and HL had white and Michael’s had none :). I tried a fabric store in town too and zippo. I have them all made and the extra elastic and stuff so I’ll post in the next day or two.
I wasn’t interested until I read that you have thick hair and do intense workouts… I too have thick hair and do boxing which makes my hair one big tangled mess! So, now I’m looking forward to the do it yourself post 🙂 thank you!
I would love a how-to and to see if others maybe have ideas of where to get the elastic for cheap (outside of Joanns, Hobby Lobby, etc)! Thanks for such a great site!
Hi! 🙂 not gonna lie…..haven’t picked up a single coupon in 2 years. But, I’ve still been a loyal MFA follower! I am LOVING all your DIY/organization/recipe posts!! In fact, I made your watermelon agua fresca last week!
I actually bought them (2 for $1) and thought they were bracelets! I bought each of my girls one to wear lol! Then later in the week I was wearing it and really needed a hair tie, so I used it and it was great! I thought I was clever, turns out that’s what it was made for lol!
Kellie,
Over a year ago I found these at Target in the girls department and they were bracelets! I thought they would be cute in hair and that is how I got hooked. I actually posted them so people could look in the girls department for them. The ones I had were not for hair and then a few months later they started to get popular as hair bands! You and I are clearly on the cutting edge of trends ;).
