June Grocery Sales Guide

So it is June already.  Really I don’t know where the time goes but summer here we come!

Here is your monthly list of the types of things that should be on sale- both fresh produce and other items you might be interested in.

June is a great month for all sorts of things.  This is an excellent time to look for deals on vacation packages and health club memberships.   On the healthy note, you will see sales on athletic gear and sporting goods.  If you have children in sports it might be a good time to plan ahead and get the gear you need while it is on sale.

This is also when stores will start to move out summer items to make room for fall things.  We will actually start seeing Back to School sales at the office supply stores sometime this month and many stores will offer clearance sales on outdoor furnishings.

This is a great time to be shopping for home improvement and garden supplies as those things are typically on sale- be on the lookout for paint sales in particular.  Last year we had lots of coupons and rebates from all the major homeimprovement stores.

June also brings National Dairy Month- so great prices on frozen treats in particular.

This is the time to stock up on BBQ items- condiments, charcoal, chips, soft drinks etc… and sunscreen.

The middle to end of June is when summer clothing will really start to get marked down.  Most retailers will want to have it out of the stores by July so they can get into fall apparel.  This is really the time to start getting what you need before the selection is picked over.

I don’t want to forget about Father’s Day!  We will see all the likely suspects there- clothing for men, golf gear, outdoor items like BBQs and hammocks, greeting cards and tool sets.

As for groceries, this is an awesome time to enjoy the beautiful summer produce!  Cherries will be in season for June and July- typically the lowest price I see in California is $1.99/lb.  (Cherries are actually #17 on the list of heaviest pesticide resisidue out of 48 items so this is one to try and get in organic if you can.)

Other berries will be on sale- blueberries, blackberries and strawberries.  For veggies you should see crazy good prices on corn, eggplant, cucumbers tomatoes and squash.

*Since Watermelon is on sale this month you might try making the Watermelon Fresca!
