Children’s Lunchbox Idea (Cheap and Easy!)

Children's Lunchbox Idea (Cheap and Easy!)

I have a super simple idea to jazz up lunchboxes for Easter- and really this is fun year round for the kiddos.  Their little faces will just light up and you will feel like super Mom ( or Dad) and this only requires an extra 15 seconds of time.

Yeah for cheap and easy right?

I found the most adorable little plastic eggs at the Dollar Store- they have a bunch of different styles for just $1.00.  Target has really cute ones too although they are more expensive.  Minnie Mouse, Star Wars, Hello Kitty… whatever your little one loves.

You can use the little plastic eggs instead of a Ziploc to hold little things for the kiddos lunchbox.  It brightens things up and adds a little extra fun.

I did this last year and when I was grabbing a few bags at the Dollar Store this year, I was really surprised that the girls asked me if they would get those in lunches again.  I guess they remembered these from last Easter.

Anyway, it actually looks really cute and you can put chopped veggies, fruit (like a clementine), crackers, cookies, treats… any little snack.

Here are a few lunches I did this week for the girls.  The one above has Annie’s cookies inside.

This was Maya’s snack for preschool today- the little racecar holds an entire package of fruit snacks.

And I found these little chicks that I love.  These are bigger too so they fit more inside.  The chick is holding some Wheat Thins but you could do any little cracker or Goldfish or even little Cheerios too.

Some of you might even have little eggs in storage right now that you can grab.  You could even just grab plain colored eggs and use a sharpie to write a message or draw a little picture.

I just put all these in a bowl with warm soapy water to wash and let them air dry on a towel.  If you don’t want to put food inside you could always add a little sticker or a lunchbox note (like these) instead.

(This idea was inspired by Martha Stewart.  Thanks Martha!)

So cute! Did you get the eggs from Dollar Tree, or a different dollar store?

Susan- all of them were the Dollar Tree! I think shopping this early gives you a great selection. It was hard for me to pick which ones I wanted.

I love this idea!! I have a question though, Has anyone at your childs school said the egg would be considered a toy? I want to do this for my son in his lunch but i dont want him to get into any trouble for bringing a toy. Thanks for all the great ideas.

Fun, cheap and easy! Perfect. Thanks for sharing. I could never think of this stuff on my own.

    Paula,

I guess that is possible but you’d really need to be at a boot camp for a school. ;P You can always ask the teacher ahead I suppose but no I have never had any issues myself. We have one in public school and one in a private school and neither has said a word. I guess you know your child best though and if a little fun egg might be something that will distract them tremendously you might just do this at home instead. 🙂

    Lindsay,

Yes the polka dot eggs, the chick eggs and the racecar eggs are all from my Dollar Tree. The chick one is nice and big. I think the trick is to shop now while the selection is fresh and full :). Closer to Easter they probably start running out.
